I have an opportunity to get one "near" new for half the price. Not familiar with it so was looking for some input from the F&D Board. Cypress with steel pan lid. Any thoughts?

Thanks.
ETA: Just got it. I plan to use it this weekend! thanks for all the input.

This is a link to who sells it

What a nightmare to clean. Doesn't strike me as being very practical.

Looks solid enough. Can't really give any constructive review, but it looks like all that I've seen.

Appreciate the simplicity, but to me, it adds no real flavor. Might as well cook her in the ground. Maybe I'm missing something...

You have to get that thing lined with metal on the inside or you will have a huge mess

Cooked a 40 lb. pig in one last night in about 3 hours. When my buddy got it it wasn't lined and it cooked fine. Cleanup wasn't that bad either. But he since lined it with metal and its an improvement for sure.

ETA: They are great but take up a lot of space. The one I used lives from place to place because nobody wants to keep the thing. Keep that in mind. It's really something you can borrow.

We have used unlined before, agree wth above - certainly do not perform as well.

Nice rig but it does need some sheet metal lining.

They get a lot of use when you first buy the but see to always decline in use. Try to find a couple of buddies willing to invest in a nice one and split the cost. I would also suggest a drain valve and def medal lined to make cleanup a whole lot easier.

I built my brother one. I bought some flashing from Home Depot and screwed it to the inside.

Thanks for the responses. Cant dig a whole at our stadium so have to use some form of a pit/box for a pig.

Was planning to line with aluminum or stainless, so agree with those comments.

Planning to check it out tomorrow or Monday.

Tip: Bring some bricks with you to put the coal tray on when checking, etc. Only you can prevent forest fires.
