Upcoming visit to Drusilla Seafood

I have only been to this restaurant once in last 25 years and that was to listen to Buddy Song speak. And I believe I only ate the hush puppies while there.
Attending a special event for a family member and this was their choice. Going somewhere else is not an option.
What is still good there? If any? Assuming fried dishes would be safe?
Or am I best to feed myself at home and just go to the restaurant to enjoy the company and a few drinks?

I haven't been since I was a teenager, but I remember it as a fried catfish platter kind of place. You'll be safe with something along those lines.

Is that place still open in the Drusilla shopping center (Rouses)?

Haven't been in a few years, but for a similar reason (family member birthday). Used to go quite a bit as a kid. Always got The Matthew (fresh fish pan sauteed crispy topped with a cheese and mushroom sauce), and still have a soft spot for that dish. I'm sure you can find something worthwhile.

About as good as Ralph & Kacoo's

Yes.

I usually got there for a lunch meeting every other month.
I always get the fish Louisiana which is fish topped with smothered eggplant and shrimp. I like it and it's consistently good.
I like their hushpuppies as well.
This place gets a lot of shite on here, but the food is pretty good and you can get in and out for lunch in an hour.

It's not a notable restaurant in the south LA scene really but people acting like they couldn't bear the thought of having to get through a meal there are being very dramatic.

I'm impressed by the longevity if nothing else of Drusilla, Mike Anderson's, and Ralph and Kakoos. When I was kid growing up in Baton Rouge in the 80s I would get excited when we went to any of the 3. They were on my "nice restaurant" list lol.

Spot on!

I've been maybe 2-3 times in the past couple of years and it wasn't bad.

I haven't been in a gazillion years either, but the menu is huge, so there are plenty of options. The charbroiled oysters on the website look good. Makes me want to go try them.
You can get a salad with blackened shrimp or chicken if you don't want fried food, but I suspect you will be just fine with fried fish or shrimp etc...

Went last year after not being there for over a decade or 2, got fish almandine, it was pretty damn good, and the place was renovated and fairly nice inside, would go again

Similar to what others are saying, I went for lunch after church with a group a few months ago. Not my choice, but I was interested to see how it was. No one was displeased. I had Drusilla au gratin and it was just fine. My husband got crawfish combo and was happy. No need to hate on it.
Pastime Jr? Thats been gone for years.

The atmosphere of the place is like an old folks home. Chairs are very uncomfortable from what I remember. But I've always enjoyed the food. Hush puppies are spot on. I remember the flounder being good, as well as the charbroiled oysters.
I think my go-to was crabmeat au gratin, which was awesome. Like others have said, this place isn't bad and gets a lot of hate here, but I'd kill to have this type of place where I live, where good Cajun food is hard to find.

Haven't been since childhood, but remember the au gratin dishes being pretty good. Who knows how the place has changed since then, though.
