Wanted to try to make my own beer battered fish and was looking for a type of beer to use. Any suggestions?

i used Guinness a few weeks ago, when I made fish and chips. The batter was nice and thick.

That's what I'm going for. I heard a "hoppy" beer was good to give it a bitter and citrusy flavor.

I was thinking something with citrus as well. Maybe a Summer Shandy or Bud Light Lime or something similar?

Red ale/lager would be my preference. I don't really like cooking with hoppy beers. It doesn't translate well in the finished product, imo.

I'm sure some dumbass will come along with the Heady comment. Saw an article recently that used Tecate for the marinade and raved about it being the best marinade. Usually the heavier beers work better and are cheaper.
