I was introduced to truffle salt yesterday.

It made something simple like popcorn taste amazing.

I understand that there are many types and it is not cheap.
Does anyone have a particular recommendation of what brand or variety to buy?

My mom goes to Italy pretty much every year and comes back with some brand I can't read.

It's pretty spot on for popcorn and butter rice. I don't cook with it too often because it will over power a dish in a hurry. But for something that just needs a little salt, it's great.

It is awesome on french fries, cheese, pretty much anything...doesn't take much.

We bought some from some store in Downtown Disney a few years ago. You can pretty much add it to anything that you would normally add salt to and it's a much different flavor. We liked it on baked potatoes and fries.

I just ordered some white truffle salt from Amazon. I'll give it a whirl.

I had some truffle salt I didn't care for much. Never used it. It was probably truffle flavored.

However, I used to buy a truffle oil for popcorn that I loved. Again, it said "truffle and truffle flavor", but regardless, it was delicious on popcorn. I made a lot of popcorn to put out at a game watching party and tossed it while hot in the oil. People dove in and wanted to know what in the world I'd done to the popcorn to make it taste so good. I love olive oil on popcorn and use various flavored oils, particularly hot pepper oils.

Rouse's used to sell the oil and may still carry it, but this is it on Amazon. I never used it on anything else.

If you haven't tried French style truffle mustard, I highly recommend it.

Red Stick Spice Co. has it. Smells incredible. I like it on salads too. But like truffles, a little goes a long way. Use sparingly.

I would guess nearly all "truffle ____" is in fact truffle flavored.

I agree, but some folks don't realize that. It's not an ingredient too many folks have dealt with, so I wanted to be clear about it.

Whatever is in that bottled oil tastes good on popcorn, though!

Most "truffle oil", however, does not contain any truffles.[43] The vast majority is olive oil which has been artificially flavoured using a synthetic agent such as 2,4-dithiapentane.[43]

We use butter flavored olive oil from a local olive oil company (j olive in ridgeland). Definitely takes it to another level
