I have a 2 lb sirloin and I think I'm going to make a pot of chili for the Bama game.

I usually use a 2 alarm mix but I am going to branch out and try to make my own. Was thinking of starting with the trinity. Will this be good or should I just stick with an onion?

I always use onions and some sort of fresh fleshy pepper: bell, publano, anaheim, etc. No celery, though.

Making a big pot today as well. 5lbs meat, 3 small onions, 2 green bell peppers, 1 yellow bell pepper, 1 red bell pepper, 3 jalapenos, 1 serrano, 1 poblano. No celery

No celery!
Should be good with the little cool weather this evening.

Beans or no beans? I'm good either way.

If you like Wendy's Chili, use the trinity and a lot of tomato product.

Speaking of ingredients we'd prefer not to know about, have any of you looked at the ingredients list on canned chili?

I was looking to have a low carb bunless chili dog and I checked out the can we had in the pantry, which is Hormel chili.

Ingredients: Water, Beef, Oatmeal, Corn Flour, Chili Powder (Chili Peppers, Flavoring), Textured Vegetable Protein (Soy Flour, Caramel Color), Tomatoes (Water, Tomato Paste), Sugar, Salt, Hydrolyzed Corn, Soy and Wheat Protein, Modified Cornstarch, Flavoring, Autolyzed Yeast, Monosodium Glutamate, Spice.

I don't care if I've liked the taste in the past. Knowing that oatmeal and textured vegetable protein are major ingredients have made me determined not to have it again. Blech.

That's really funny you say that. I made a chili weekend before last with the trinity and one can of crushed tomatoes. It was good, but did remind me of Wendy's Chili.

I'll never make a pot of chili without beans in it. I'm not even sure what the argument for no beans is..

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Love me some Hormel Chili. IMO that recipe is pretty good. The oatmeal, corn flower, soy protein (ground soybeans). Oh and who doesn't like a little Autolyzed yeast and some monosodium Glutamate?

I actually have a pack of hotdog buns and a can of Hormel Chili on the kitchen counter right now (Scouts Honor) and plan on combining them with some Bryan Juicy Jumbo franks from the fridge and a little mustard/cabbage slaw tonight with some white corn chips and cheesy hot rotel sauce for an All American Dinner Treat. May even have a diet Dr. Pepper with them. Sadly, where at one point I could eat four of them, I now only go for two.

I just feel like they tricked me by including those ingredients in what I thought was meat! Haha.
