Anyone with a Traeger use off brand pellets? I found some on amazon that are hickory/cherry/maple/apple.

Traeger says some crap about off brands voiding the warranty but I'm not even sure that's legal?

You can use other brands. Not a problem.

What brand are you ordering?

Costco has some hickory, cherry, maple. 33lbs for $20. I've used them on a bunch of stuff. Cabelas sells Traeger pellets.

Those pellets at Costco are a good price I have used those a lot. The last I bought my brother and I split a pallet. We got it from our local CO-OP and it got the price down to $8 for a 20lb bag of Hickory.
That Amazon price is good though especially since they deliver and no tax. If you keep it on automatic order do you get a 20% discount?

My cousin was telling me about a good deal he was getting on heating pellets he was using in his grill. I looked at some of it and it had pieces of pine and plywood in it. Told him he was a dumbass.

I'm pretty sure you keep that 20%. I'll have to look into it more.

How are the traeger grills? Do they replace the need of a gas/charcoal grill? Just moved into my new house and have been looking at these. Im down to a nice gas Weber and one of these.

I'll never buy another gas grill. Bought a traeger, sold my gas grill and a smoker and never looked back.

There are other options also like rec-tec, yoder, green mountain, etc....

What pellets do you use the most? I have mesquite, pecan and the traeger gourmet blend. I am becoming more convinced the lumberjack pellets produce better flavor than the traeger brand. Next bag will definitely be Alder.

I have used what I believe to be every type of wood pellet available and at last count have been through over 3000lb of pellets I use hickory almost exclusively.

cookin pellets

Work very well in my Yoder, see no reason they would not do the same in a Traeger, much better than what is available at Academy.

Went through pecan x 3 bags. Finishing off a bag of a blend I got off amazon, though I'm not too impressed with the flavor from this.

Next I'm going to just try good ole hickory. If that's better I'll just stick with it.

Traeger brand pellets are not the best. They are sprayed with the smoke flavor and don't produce the best smoke. The lumberjack I posted is made from the wood and smoke much better. I got a free bag of traeger hickory from a Costco road show Friday. Did 3-2-1 ribs yesterday and barely had a smoke flavor.
