So the dewberries are popping up everywhere, and my kids want to pick them all the time. We usually wash them and stick them in a bag in the freezer, where they sit until I get tired of looking at them and toss them. I may have made a pie with them once, and it didn't taste very good IMO.

Should I treat them like blackberries or is there anything special I should do with them? They seem to be more sour than blackberries and slightly more bitter. I don't know how to do jam, so they'll probably end up in a pie or cobbler.

My granny used to make dewberry cobbler. As I remember, it was delicious...but everything she made was delicious.

Make a slightly sweet cornbread batter, put into a pan, then scatter berries on top and bake.

Or cook the fruit into a simple compote and serve with Brie.

I always thought a dewberry = blackberry?

I have a ton of them too near my house. Just gave a pint away to my secretary.
