I say bad. It's nothing more than low-level prostitution

This is a rare subject for the OT to digest.

The other day I had a waitress with a nose ring and a surly attitude (food wasn't fast enough, wouldn't bring extra lemon wedges for my water, etc) So I left her a 20 dollar bill gospel tract with a good verse from Acts about being a cheerful servant of the lord

On the tip line on the receipt I wrote "here's a tip, do a better job next time!"

Tips stands for "to insure prompt service" so they better or they're not getting one!!

Bad. Waiters/servers have gotten so desperate, they feel that getting a tip is their right.

It should be their fricking right. They make ****$2.35/hour****. Yes you read that right. 2.35.
Restaurants pay them filth because they, and the government who taxes every bit of the 2.35, assume that they will be getting tipped, at least $5 an hour, to make minimum wage.
Tip your god damned servers. Yes they are being damned by "God" for having to do that incredibly miserable job.
Eta. I didn't serve tables. I listened to a friend's kid bitch about serving at chiles for 2 months before he walked out of the store during a shift because of an African American table that was driving him insane.

Change fricking jobs if you don't like it.

No one is making them wait tables. You want more money, get a better job.

Do you trust all restaurants to hire employees at minimum wage as effectively as Chik-Fil-A or Canes? I don't.

Take away tips, and there's no reason for people who are any good at waiting tables to continue that employment position which means you have the same people working at Burger King and Popeyes waiting on you.

People who bitch about tips in the restaurant industry would be the first people complaining about the massive decline in service.

ETA: It's not a server's right to expect anything. If you are bad at waiting tables, then you don't deserve the tip, which means you'll be forced to find a different job to sustain yourself financially.

This shite is no different than people in certain sales jobs having small base salaries, but getting paid mostly on commission.

If we trust the restaurants to hire people and pay them a set amount above minimum wage, we will end up with a bunch of OT like tards waiting tables and they will suck at it.

This is the system we have and I'm happy to tip well on good service. I wish people who don't want to tip would stay out of restaurants or stick to the fat fck buffets so you can leave your $1 tip.

Good. They can take home $500-$1k a week at a good establishment.

Good

Funny how servers themselves say they like tips while those who don't wait tables are the ones saying they are bad.

I wouldn't work part time as a server if I got paid a flat $15 per hour as I make more than that via tips

In European countries tipping isn't the norm. The servers get paid normal wages with benefits. Which is why you have to hunt them down to get service!

Best tip I can give to a restaurant owner is to not serve food past 9 p.m. on any given day.

Back in the early 2000's I might have, but that was during high school/college and they were chain type restaurants.

I don't see how nicer restaurants would survive if they were forced to pay their employees minimum wage and disallow tipping. The entire premise of "nice" restaurants is higher quality food and service.

Ok, sooo, how do yalls entitled asses get your food? Is it suppose to magically appear at your table with your drinks fixed? You dont think somebody waiting on your every need from mayonnaise to food, deserves a tip? I don't wait tables, but I do tip because I realize they deserve it and I'm not entitled to somebody waiting on my every need.
Idk. You do you man. Just know they aren't changing waiters salary any time soon. If you're curious, ask your next server how much they make, and then base your tip off that.
