I know Port is an "old guy's" wine, but I bet someone here knows good Port.

Along with several other wines he likes to drink, our son from Pittsburgh brought a bottle of Port with him a visit or two back and I found it to be very nice. Sadly, I have no idea what he brought, only that we consumed it over the course of a few nights. We found his Port to be quite nice and since I am an adult of appropriate age to be considered an old fart, I should be allowed to drink whatever I like.

Please don't recommend a nice port available only in an obscure region of Portugal you visited last year. I have been there too and find the train journey to be too lengthy to endure for a case of fortified wine.

I'd go with Taylor Fladgate, 20 year. Most good 30 years are over $100

I recommend Barr Grand Finale
Barr

I can't recall the exact price but I think it was mid 20s.

Greg & Tealy Barr are a really nice couple originally from New Orleans who now own and operate Barr Estate Winery in Paso Robles. We've had all of their wines over the past few years and they carry some great values throughout the lineup. We visited them in Paso in early December. Great people. Greg will be able to tell you where to find their wines in Mississippi.

Hunt Cellars also had some ports we enjoyed in Paso.

I enjoy port with a cigar.

Graham's makes some very nice ports and can be found most wine shops or just buy online. They have some great vintage ports as well as the Tawny.

If picking port pick by vintage. 2000, 2003 and 2011 are considered "Classic" years 2009 and 2012 are "Very Good"

Regardless of what you buy use these years as a benchmark for better wines.

You could also call your son and ask what he brought. They have phones in Pittsburgh.

And when you go visit him have a few beers and a great burger or an incredible smoked salmon Reuben sandwich at Fat Heads, one of my favorite places.

No suggestions, but posts like this are why you're my favorite FDB poster. I hope you and the Mrs.'s health are well, and your family has a wonderful 2017.

I've been drinking the $5 bottle that Trader Joe's sells.

Seriously, though, I'm far from an afficianado, but I can't really tell the difference between it and the entry level Warre's or Sandeman's stuff that starts around $25. It works for me if I just want a little taste in the evening. It's certainly not as smooth as some much more expensive vintage stuff I've tasted.

You can keep a bottle of tawny port opened for up to a month if stored correctly.

We always hit up prager port in st helena whenever we are out that way and bring back a couple bottles. Problem is that we only drink a small amount whenever we open it and it ends up going bad with about half a bottle left.

Switch to Madeira. No worries about bottles going bad once opened as it's already oxidized. 10 year broadband can be found in most good wine stores at a decent price.
