The GF woke me up Sunday morning and wanted to go to Brunch. Since she couldn't just let me sleep, I relented and asked where she wanted to go. She of course didn't know and finally suggested Another Broken Egg. Fine, no problem.

We arrived around 10:45 AM and was informed it would be an hour to hour and half wait. LOL at that. We got back in the car and I remembered wanting to try The Overpass Merchant. Checked my phone and it opened at 11:00 AM. Perfect.

We parked right in front of the restaurant and walked in. The place was half full and we grabbed a table. They only have large tables, so if you're a party of four, you'll be waiting the same as a party of two or six.

I ordered a coffee and was brought a large mug of Cafeciteaux coffee. I'm not a coffee snob, but I like good food and drinks, and this coffee was superb. I started a thread on it the other day to sing its praises. LINK

We looked over the menu and decided to try the chicken skins and cheese curds. These alone were enough for a meal. The chicken skins were delicious and tossed in honey and hot sauce. The cheese curds were an absolute star. Little pillows of mozzarella cheese. I see now how people can tolerate living in Green Bay.

For our meals, I ordered a classic of biscuits covered with sausage gravy and two eggs (over easy). The biscuits and gravy were delicious. The eggs were a bit over (not very yokey) but were still good.

GF ordered the chicken and beignets. We were already a little weary of this dish when the waitress came out before we received it and asked we give them constructive feedback. Apparently they were having problems with the consistency of the beignet batter. It arrived and my GF enjoyed it. The chicken was perfectly cooked and delicious with the pickled strawberries and Steens gastrique. The beignets were interesting. Kind of tasted like sweet hush puppies. Personally, I think TOP needs to either remove them from the menu or rename the dish.

It was really the only miss of the meal, and was just one component of a meal.

Overall, we had an excellent meal and experience and will certainly return for dinner. The place packed in a hurry, and by the end of our meal there was already a wait for tables and the entire patio area was packed with people. It gets loud in there, so I wouldn't bring young children or people hard of hearing. There were some acoustic buffers on the ceiling, but they need to do a little more to get the sound level down.

Their biscuits and gravy are awesome. I wish they had them at lunch and dinner too.

Nice post, looks good. Not sure I have eaten chicken skin as a stand alone dish/app.

I've had it once at a restaurant in Lafayette. It's really good but also very rich. You can't eat a lot of them like one could pork skins.

One comment, cheese curds are actually cheddar.

big fan of the merchant and those skins are awesome, and also agree with you on the chicken and beingets

only real complaint with them is seating, but not much can be done there.

Interesting. Was a very very mild cheddar then. Would have fooled me in a taste test

Great report....1,000,000 years ago, the go to brunch in that neighborhood was Christian St Market.

RE: beignet "batter", well, that's part of the problem. Beignets are made with a soft dough, not a wet batter.

We're fans of that place, although we haven't made it over for brunch yet. They have an excellent hamburger. Good beer selection too.

We didn't. Neither of us are big drinkers and she wanted water and all I really wanted was coffee.

We'll go back for dinner and try a cocktail or two.

What was the damage on the bill? Is it a casual brunch spot or more upscale?
