So, here's the deal. A couple of years ago we were on vacation in England and made our way to Scotland at one point. Picked up a "sampler" box of 3 small bottles of Glennfiddich (12, 15, 18 year old I think). Now, I'm not a whiskey drinker, but I just got it because I was in Scotland. But, I would like to try to enjoy it. How exactly should I go about this? Crack it open and chug? Mix it with Coke Zero? :sarcasm:

Personally, I like it neat. The ice (water) makes it taste awful.

Small glass. Two ice cubes. Sip. Enjoy.

1. Neat
2. With a small amount of distilled water to open up the flavors
3. On the rocks...

They say scotch should be served in one of these..

I would also drink them from 12 to 18. once you have that 18 you are not going to want the 12.

I'll tell you the absolute WORST way to enjoy scotch. About 10 years I read this article about a guy who died from alcohol poisoning. He had throat cancer and they removed some of his esophagus rendering him incapable of drinking booze.

But he still wanted to get buzzed. So he found out that if his wife injected the booze into his butt with an enema bulb a lot of it would be absorbed into his blood. She gave him too much and he croaked.

Get some glenlivet and a 16 oz foamer full of ice. Fill it 3/4 full of scotch with a splash of water.

It might be improper, but goddam I love it.

Cool story Zach. I've heard of a lot of ways to die, but death by excessive scotch up the arse is a new one.

Man, and I just bought a new enema. Guess I'll return it.

That's a hell of a way to go out. And no matter how much I may love someone, I can go on record now as saying I will NEVER squirt scotch up anyone's arse. Ugh.

In one of these. Either neat or with a splash of room temperature water. No ice.

If you aren't a whisky drinker, you are going to want to start out with your first glass with ice and 50/50 water.

Scotch is a taste that develops, it's a very biting liquor at first, though.

Maybe do the 12 year that way,

15 year on the rocks

18 year neat

The best way to enjoy scotch is however the frick you like it best. I drink mediocre scotch neat, my dad drinks 15 years old scotch in a 32 ounce glass filled with crushed ice and a lot of water. He thinks I'm an alcoholic, I think he's ruining the scotch, but we each respect one another's preferences.

Thanks Flask! Sounds like a plan.

Didn't know the reference. Looked it up. Gotta admit that you're pretty close.
