I've been hearing a lot of good things about it lately. Have never been. I'd like to try it soon. I love raw sushi. What are some of your favorite rolls? Suggestions, please. TIA

Place is great...really fresh.
Everything I've tried is good.

Essen/Perkins. Shopping center next to Counter Culture.
I've been there twice and didn't find anything special about it. Sushi was meh. I think the sushi is better at Ichiban right next door and a few other places in BR. That's my opinion though.

quote:If you're really into quality raw sushi, I'd go with either sashimi style (raw protein only...no rice) or nigiri style (protein on top of rice). Instead of accentuating what should be the star of the dish, rolls tend to obliterate the joy of quality raw product, almost defeating the purpose of what sounds like your love for raw sushi. (Inferior product can also be handsomely masked in a roll form while sashimi cannot hide and is all about the quality of the raw product).

The trick is to find quality raw sushi in Baton Rouge, or anywhere in LA. I'm very critical of Baton Rouge sushi because my standards have been set so high after spending years in the industry. Once you've experienced the "good stuff" on a regular basis, it's really difficult to go back and settle for less, and unfortunately I haven't found anything here that's worthy.
Some of the sashimi, chef's techniques, and service have been downright deplorable here, but again, I'm admittedly spoiled.

Sushi Yama is my second favorite Sushi spot in BR next to Ichiban.

Everything I have had from here has been great. Very fresh fish.
Rock n Sake is now my favorite place but I will go to Sushi Yama again eventually.

Best sushi spot in town with Ichiban coming in 2nd. All the fish ive tried were fresh and melts in your mouth while being firm. There's not a moreconsistent sushi place in BR IMHO.

So where do I need to look around here to find top notch sushi?

Place is very good as far as sushi goes. One thing that I noticed tho that kind of freaked me out was that everytime we took ONE sip of water they would refill. Im down with good service and nothing pisses me off more than having an empty glass in front of me but that shite was weird.
