I just picked up a couple sacks of crawfish and have the sacks sitting in a couple of ice chests with ice poured on top of them. I need to leave until about 4:00 this afternoon. Will the crawfish be ok for that long?

I'd put the ice on bottom and put something in there to separate the ice from the crawfish.

Pop open the drain and elevate the opposite side of the chest so excess water doesn't pool at the bottom.

I've had mine stored that way since yesterday at 6...and they're still alive.

Make sure the chest lid is propped open and in an area that will remain shady until it's time to murder them.

another option is get a big towel & set over the sack, get your hose & water it down every 20 min or so. if you have an ice box in your shed or something, you can set in there

Ice on top, definitely. Not only keeps them cool but also hydrated as it melts. They will be fine for many hours. Keep drain open on chest.

I've actually kept sacks of them alive for 4 days like that. In a walk-in cooler but with crushed ice kept on top.

This time of year just don't run them over with your truck and they'll stay alive

This is what I did. They were quite sluggish when I got around to boiling them so I was a little concerned. They boiled up fine though with very few straight tails. Thanks for the advice.
