What is the feeling about a restuarant refusing to split a check fior patrons? Lunch time. Party of three. restaurant 25% full.

I might not patronize them under certain circumstances. If I'm lunching with co-workers, we are each paying our own way. If I'm having lunch with a friend or two, then I would be happy to pick up the tab.

That is my orginal thought. Are places life this simply forgetting they are in the service industry?

I'd make sure to never go there again unless someone else was paying or I was with my family.

If they won't split a check for 3 then I would not go back. I could maybe understand a huge party at a busy restaurant for dinner.

My thought's exactly. Funny thing is my experience was with a new $15 to $30 a plate restaurant. Burgers started at $15.

The service was good FWIW.

Superior in S'port used to be assholes about this, so I vetoed them anytime they were suggested for a group meal.

Seldom encounter it anywhere these days.

IIRC, this has something to do with how the servers/bartenders steal from the restaurant. At least the bartenders for sure.

Usually, if they won't do separate checks, they will divide up the check equally. It's not perfect, as some people pay more than they should, and some less, but that's the way it goes.

I can understand the frustration that leads to a policy like this. I have seen where large parties ask after the check arrives to have it split. Then there's a 1t minute debate about who's going to pay for the appetizers...

Why can't you do the math? They have to take 3 cards if they want to get paid.

Was the request made before ordering? If so, that's pretty unreasonable if they have a P.O.S. system. If the food was good enough I think I could deal with using Venmo to settle up with others. Otherwise, that obviously factors into your decision to go there. Much like cash only places would.

When I eat with a friend, we just get one check and give both credit cards. With a small group, this seems like the easiest thing to do.

Still, it is pretty inconvenient and annoying if a restaurant flat out won't split checks.

I respectfully think you are missing the point. If one goes to an upscale lunchtime restaurant where a hamburger cost $15 and the place is less than half full
there is an expectation of exceptional customer service.

Now if that is the way management wants to run their business they have every right. But if they cannot figure a way (in this situation) to split a check between the three people......I am simply wondering why.
