Two adults and two kids. Only drank one beer and ate one app (hush puppies - 4 for $6). The food was good but I can't rationalize that much money for barbecue. Wife had briksket and a side, I had the two meat plate and a side (chopped brisket, pulled pork), kids had $8.95 kids meals. The chopped brisket was cubed, which I'd never seen before, and really tender with a good bark. Pork was flavorful. Portions were pretty large- we had some to take home- so I rationalized what we paid because we got a second meal out of it. Cokes come in the small bottles with no free refills, and that gets a little pricey as well because they aren't big. It was packed so I guess they're doing well. Server was attentive but it took about 45 mins to get our food.

something doesn't add up. All of that should have been about $84 assuming you tipped 20%

So two adults plus drinks cost 76 bucks? I'll assume comes were $2 each and say each kid had 3. That would still put you and the wife eating for 64 bucks. Then a beer we can say 8 bucks and let's say she had two comes, so meal was 25 apiece.....
Did the 100 include tip?

Probably need to switch the wife and kids to drinking water man. It's a good way to save money and it's way better for you

They are certainly pricey, but your ordering wasn't particularly efficient. Had you ordered a couple of the larger combos for the family to share, you could have tried every meat they offered until you couldn't move and probably would have saved about $25. Plus, as mentioned, soft drinks will chew you up.

Markup on BBQ these days is outrageous. I'd rather cook it myself.

Soft drinks are a killer. Charging $2+ for soft drinks should be illegal.

It was our first time and didn't know what to order or portion size. We'll keep that in mind next time. Still, $18 for two meats and a side is steep. As far as cokes go, kids had one each and I had tea (wife had a draft beer). It wasn't like we went nuts on cokes. Let me reiterate that I thought the food was very good.

Yeah, that is a bit ridiculous. I am fine with paying a premium for great BBQ since it is hard to run a good BBQ restaurant that keeps a consistent product but that is more than you pay at the pit room, Killen's or franklins. I know it is a sit down place but still.

I hear you, and I agree. Last time I went to Salt Lick, the lady and I split a combo:

quote:

THE RANCHER (NO SUBSTITUTIONS) – $17.95 A sampling of Brisket, Pork Ribs, Sausage and Turkey!

Served with potato salad, cole slaw & beans. Bread, pickles & onions on request.

And it very nearly filled us up (and dessert put us over). With that said, the portions at BRQ are a bit bigger, but not double, so I can certainly see the value argument. However, considering the sad state of BBQ in Baton Rouge, I imagine they can charge whatever they want for now, until they get some real competition (that doesn't require me to sit outside or drive all the way down Plank).

That's why I order water. I can exactly replicate drinks at home with trivial effort and much lower cost.

That would be a one and done for me. I'd rather wait until I'm back in Lockhart. I think the last trip we fed a family of 4 (granted the boys are young, but can pack away some bbq) for about $45 at Kreuz. Not a fan of BBQ being "fancied up," but that is just a personal opinion. Everything about this place sounds like I'm not interested.
That said, I really hope they succeed.

Agree.

The previous thread on this was a head scratcher also. What are people expecting when they go out to eat?

Op orders 3 drinks, a beer, and an app just to start. That's $20 already and you haven't looked at the menu.

What? Who the frick wants to pay damn near $80 for two adults and 2 kids for BBQ entrees? That's steep to say the least

Wife and I went recently during happy hour. Each got 2 beers, an app and split a three meat combo. Total with tip was about $55. Very worth it because we ordered efficiently and got half priced canebreaks. Worked well for us. And the bbq chips are great.

That's the two components of Value: Quality (the overall restaurant experience) and Price.

Restaurants that are perceived to offer a less than fair value will tend to lose market share.

1) drink iced tea or water, cheaper and not poisonous

2) good BBQ is expensive...i spent almost $50 bucks for lunch for two ppl at rudy's in sugarland. i'm not sure why ppl are surprised by this

3) even so, $100 for 4 ppl sounds like a typical night out at a nice place
