That's a damn good price, especially considering they are stopping production.

I'll stop, the shelf probably had than many, this place has an crazy amount of alcohol, they might have more somewhere else. Bourbon takes up the entire shelving rack, floor to ceiling, 16' long, then the rum starts...

I've heard that the reason for stopping 10 productions is b/c the Chinese have taking a serious liking to the product and they are having to turn what was suppossed to be 10 into 8 year old just to keep up for the demand on that product.

I believe they will bring 10 back eventually if they can ever get caught up on their demand. We've been stockpiling 10 for awhile now at my bar and are going to price accordingly since most bars will soon be out completely.

I'm digging up an old post because I'm irritated.

I had some new Eagle Rare and old Eagle Rare (from about 7 years ago) the other night, and the old bottle just blew the new out of the water. I managed to find a paper label bottle (since early 2013, ER switched to silk screened labels rather than paper labels) over the weekend, and once again, it was just superior. Of note is the fact that any bottle with a paper label came out before Old Charter 10 was discontinued.

ER is barrel select, so the very best of Buffalo Trace's low-rye mash that had been aged 10 years became Eagle Rare or set aside for further aging. The rest became Old Charter 10.

They already killed Charter 12 and the 13 year Proprietor's Reserve to funnel into Eagle Rare 17 and George T. Stagg to catch up with demand. Those Charters were two of my favorite bourbons which are now basically a little older and four to ten times the price depending on who is gouging what on BT's rare stuff.

Now Charter 10, a decent bourbon for under $20, is gone, and ER 10, a good bourbon for $25-$30, is not as good as it was. They just screwed fans of these whiskeys from every angle here.

I wouldnt say ER10 is supposed to be the very best of BTs low-rye whiskey. They sell readily available higher quality whiskey at a higher price point than ER10. Also keep in mind that ER10 is a single barrel. Bad barrels to sneak through sometimes. I drink ER10 regularly and I havent noticed a dramatic drop in quality if any at all.

I said that a bit unclearly. What I meant is that ER10 is supposed to be the best 10 year expression on BT's low-rye mash bill stuff in something that isn't a cask strength.

Taste is definitely a personal thing, but I get a almost menthol flavor in the finish of the newer bottles of ER10 that I don't find in the older bottles.

It is barrel select, but part of using more 10 year stuff also meant using barrels from a larger portion of the rackhouse, and that can make a difference.

It was awfully fitting that there was a case of 10 year old as an auction item at his benefit last month.

Don't know if anyone will read this before the shop closes tonight but I just ran across a half dozen or so 750s of OC10. I bought the last two liters they had but didn't grab anymore...

Damn, I remember her. She used to by Jenya D, and also sometimes Katie Fey. Do a search on her pics. You won't be disappointed.
