boil them in plain water for 3 minutes...I do this in the pot.

then soak them in cold, seasoned water...I do this in an ice chest...the key to boiling shrimp is to completely cool them down after the initial boil.

Chicken is right. The main thing is to not overcook them. If you do, they'll be tough and the shells will stick to the meat making them a bitch to peel. 3-5 minutes is what I do, depending on the size. Test a few before you boil the batch to determine the correct time.

being a straight up coonass and living in a shrimping community all my life it would be complete anarchy if this was done. cold shrimp suck.

let the water come to a boil place shrimp in. boilf for 3 or so minutes throw a bag of ice on top then close. let sit for about 5 to 8 mins and then the remove. the shells will be very easy to peel off. i've done this literally a 100 times over.

both are good....if you want cold shrimp cocktail, i prefer hot.....

anyone who has cooked them will tell you the key is to not overcook them.

my old man is getting senile, went to his house last week - he boiled 30 lbs of 10-14 ct for 7 minutes.....WAY TOO LONG

I prefer them hot too. The main thing is too not overcook them. Most people just let them soak in the pot and they continue to cook. Your method of putting ice in the pot to stop the cooking would certainly do the trick. I can't match your 100+ boils and I'll try your method next time.

let seasoned water come to a rolling boil, put shrimp in, shrimp will sink to bottom, when shrimp float turn off the heat and let them soak until they start to sink, then take em out of water. this is a tested and true recepie works for any shrimp regardless of size as the receipe is nottimed but based on the action of the shrimp

Bring water to a boil, put in shrimp, boil for 3 minutes , cut off fire and throw a shite load of ice in water and hose down outside of pot.
Here is the key. When they start to sink they are done.

It may just be me but night rigger shrimp always seem to be harder to peel no matter what you do.

Good thread. I must be cooking too long cause my shells are always too hard to peel.

Once they're pink, give them just 30-60 seconds more heat, then ice well in the seasoned boiling water.Let them soak 'till they taste right to you. Only way to screw them up is to over cook.

wrong. Stick to the Rant Chickboy. I'm assuming Kalunda (NHRN) taught you this?

Cold shrimp are only good the next day after I've eaten my weight in hot shrimp and have no other alternative than to refrigerate them.
