Sorry to be the one to break the news to you guys, if in your narrow eyes it makes me a DB, I will not weep. The poboy, "poor-boy", or whatever is a NO institution. If the great unwashed of BR want to call a sandwich on mushy, crappy bread a poboy, it is their loss.

Grow up, eat your fried donuts covered with green and yellow sugar a King Cake, it isn't.

I would say a awful location, it houses a kids rental bounce house now.

If he could of, would of, should of joined the mid city to underpass movement he could be making great a poboy still.

There's a seafood spot out here in Lawrenceville, GA using that name. I thought they wouldn't last long, but today I saw they're opening a second location.

LD Seafood. In a strip mall behind Cane's. Best in Baton Rouge. $6 with fries. Try the egg rolls and cracklins also. You will not be impressed when you walk through the door. Great shrimp poboy though.

Buck, have you made it down to Loganville to try Foggy Bottom BBQ? Owner is supposed to be from LA.

I'm stuck here in greater ATL for a three week work gig and have to pass through your area a lot. Any food tips are appreciated.

Yes, i've been to Foggy Bottom, and was greatly disappointed in both the BBQ and the "Cajun cuisine." The Ribs were overcooked to where the bones fell out, and the rib meat had a nearly black bark on it. The "jambalaya" had a sweet taste to it, and it was oily. It seemed as if they had folded in clarified sweet butter when it was done. The red beans tasted as though the only seasoning they had were black pepper. I could go on, but i'll just say it wasn't pleasant, and i didn't return. I had asked about it on here and someone had posted saying the guy who owned it refused to listen to peoples' feedback. I need to find the pics i had taken of the food and post them. It was bad.

As for recs in the area, i can help with that ...

Jerk Shack on Duluth Hwy in Lawrenceville is my first rec. There’s a LOT of Jamaican in Metro Atlanta, and I haven’t tried them all (no one could), but I’ve tried most if not all in this area, and this is the best in Lawrenceville in my opinion. Get the Jerk chicken plate that comes with “rice and peas” (red beans and rice mixed together) and the mixed veggies (spicy, sautéed cabbage) … it comes with fried plantains as well. Get them to put some of the gravy from the brown stew chicken over the rice. This is a huge, gluttonous serving on this plate and worth every penny.

Pho 89 on Old Norcross Rd. in Lawrenceville – great Pho and grilled Vietnamese dishes. Grilled chicken is my favorite. It’s equivalent to the grilled chicken at Little Saigon in Baton Rouge.

Banh Mi Café on Satellite Blvd. in Duluth – best Banh Mi I’ve ever had. Don’t be alarmed by the white guy taking the orders up front … his Vietnamese Wife is in the kitchen, and she makes a mean sandwich.

GA Bakery next door to Banh Mi Café – also cranks out some really good sandwiches. The owner is a French guy who happened to have spent some time in New Orleans as well. The place is kind of like a “La Madeline.”

Thai Lotus on Suagrlaof Parkway is a ducked off hidden gem if you like authentic Thai and not the Americanized stuff. Sandy, the owner, is classically trained … and actually from Thailand.

For decent Italian - Dominick’s on the square in Lawrenceville is the only edible Italian food we’ve found other than Provino’s over in Snellville … but Provino’s isn’t open for lunch. I prefer Dominick’s anyway. I’m not a beer drinker, but if you’re into the craft beer scene, the Lawrenceville square is where the craft beer is. There’s a few spots there that cater to that … one of which is name “Exhibit (A)le” I believe …

If you want good BBQ, the only decent BBQ in the Lawrenceville area IMO, is Hometown BBQ on Hwy 29/Lawrenceville Hwy in Lawrenceville … good, decent, consistent BBQ and sides. It’s not going to be on anybody’s “top 5 best I ever ate” list, but you won’t be disappointed or feel like you wasted money. Solid lunch every time.

If you want the “bucket list BBQ” … head over to Decatur and hit up Community Q. Be sure to get the Mac-N- Cheese. Fox Bros. BBQ right outside Little 5 Points is also worth the venture in my opinion.

If you’re really up for a “venture,” go to the Hong Kong Market on Jimmy Carter Blvd. in Norcross, and go inside to the food court … there’s a guy in there selling Chinese BBQ … Peking duck with rice, veggies, and a soup for like 8 bucks. Can’t beat it, and the duck is awesome.

Peachtree Café on Clayton St. in Lawrenceville has the best breakfast around. It’s on par with Louie’s in Baton Rouge. Sweet Potato pancakes FTW.

Asma’s Cuisine is a straight hole in the wall Indian/Pakistani/Afghan lunch buffet in Duluth that has some of the best food you will eat in your life. Disposable plates, plastic utensils, mix match chairs and tables … nobody cares. Hot fresh naan. Tandoori chicken. Butter chicken. Lamb biryani. (Don’t get confused with the other spot up front on the highway, Naan n Curry, this place is around back, and down the hill)

If ever you want a regular arse sandwich for lunch, don’t fall for the trap of the 5,439 different sub chains out here. Publix is the best for sandwiches, and it ain’t even close.

Matthew’s Cafeteria in Tucker for a straight up old school Piccadilly style southern meal.

The Taco Depot Taqueria in the Exxon on Sugarloaf just past Old Norcross is straight legit. (not to be confused with Taco Depot on the other side of Sugarloaf on the actual corner of Old Norcross at the end of the strip mall with 5 guys)

You didn't tell me exactly what kind of cuisine you were looking for, but if you noticed, there's a bunch of different international cuisines. That happens to be Gwinnett County's strong suit. If you're looking of rsomething more in particular, let me know. Hope this helps.

Have to agree with the location criticism. It was a horrible location. If I could go back, would definitely pick another location.

Originally it wasn't meant to be a stand along location for the market/restaurant. It was to be a side business and my brother's seafood distribution was the main reason for the location. He was supposed to cover majority of rent. Well there was money issues and he got a nice job offer to run another seafood company. So the market had to cover all expenses after that in a horrible location. Lunch business was good but dinner business was non-existent because it was so far away from residential areas. Decided to pursue careers in what I got my degrees in (accounting/finance).

Still cook a good bit and even broadened some of my skills a good bit in certain areas since I've left it behind. Would love to maybe try it again one day. Restaurants require such a huge investment cost and the hours can be really tough. Have to really enjoy cooking and the reward of pleasing people. It's not a get rich quick type of business.

Great list, thanks! I already pass by several of those places on the way to one of my sites and will explore as much as time allows.

ETA: Other threads this morning remind me to ask you for any suggestions on a Korean restaurant -- for someone who has not been to one. When I lived here before everyone said just run up Buford Highway and pick a random place with a squiggly-writing sign. Yeah, no, not gonna do that on a first try.

Yeah, i'm not well versed on the Korean. I've tried 3 different spots and i don't know if i'm picking bad restaurants or i just don't like the cuisine. I like the marinated and grilled meats, but none of the other dishes. There's a sh!t ton of Korean along Pleasant Hill and Satellite in Duluth, but like i said, i've had bad luck and can't really help with that one.

Be sure to let me know if you find a good one, and let me know how you like any of the spots i recommended.
