Me and the wife have secured a babysitter for the next 3 Fridays and we want to try some of the new restaurants in Shreveport. Help me decide where to go:

- Parish Taceaux thoughts? I went for lunch one day and thought the tacos were incredibly overpriced. $5 for a taco? 1 was great and the other was bland. The salsa was really good. The wife wants to go check it out though.

- Rhino downtown - Do they have a liquor license yet? Seems like an awesome space.

- We want to check out the new Wine Country. Anybody been and had the expanded menu?

- Giuseppe Pasta Cafe thoughts? Haven't been but heard good things

- Tejas thoughts?

- El Cabo Verde - Worth the trip? Compare to Ki?

Anything new I'm missing?

Only place on the list I've been yet. Not really comparable to Ki. More of a sit down deal with some more options. Had the carnitas tacos and they were great, the two salsas and queso were both really good too. Buddy had the filet and said it was legit.

Margaritas were pretty sweet but I only got a house version. They did have Victoria beer which is a plus for me. It is a little pricey but I think it is worth it. Great to have three options so close to the house.

Damn, can't wait to just get a brew at that Rhino and watch time fly by.

That part of downtown Shreve is on the come up. Looking forward to it filling out.

Parish Taceaux thoughts?

I looked at their menu online and ordered some duck quesadillas to go. Got there to sign the check and it was more than I expected, so I grabbed a menu to make sure I wasn't crazy. Nope, they've raised the price 20% in the couple months it's been open. The quesadilla was fine, but not worth $13.15 after tax.

Business is starting to trickle in. Hopefully all the lawyers downtown begin to realize they can take a break and get a good coffee mid-morning. Also they have a full kitchen, which I didn't know until my 8th visit or so.

Tejas thoughts?

Hope it makes it but they're throwing out all kinds of coupon deals on social media right now. I went for lunch and it was just okay. I could've ordered wrong. This town is up to its arse in similarly priced, locally owned restaurants right now; this one seems to get lost in the fray.

I haven't been to the others but will soon enough. I hope the Giuseppe Pasta deal makes it - that's a weird location. Maybe they do a big lunch like Cafe Pierremont used to.

I'm sure all the restaurateurs are breathing a sigh of relief that our new Wholefoods is so half-assed compared to bigger markets. No sandwich station, no sushi, no breakfast cafe. Just pizza, a coffee shop, and take-home prepared meals.

Wrong. Giuseppe Pasta Cafe is a spinoff located next to Cuban Liquor.

I really hope the keep adding cool things to the area downtown with Rhino and Parish Taceaux. Would be cool to have a few blocks of cool restaurants/bars/stores that you could park and walk around to.

Went to it two weeks ago and I thought it was pretty decent for a lunch pasta spot. Same pastas that Giuseppe's used to cook but toned down for more lunch portions. There was a good sized lunch crowd in there when I went. Have to be careful not to get too heavy of a dish for a lunch though.

The parking at the downtown Rhino is easier than the Pierremont Rhino. Always spots on Texas, or at worst on Louisiana between Texas & Travis. If my office was near there I'd be 10 lbs heavier between Rhino and the burgers at Abby Singers. Though you won't get fat from the piddly quesadillas and miniature tacos at Parish Taceaux.

isn't a sushi restaurant planned for that area as well? or did that fall through?

also saw that Rhino is opening another location in the CSRA building in Bossier

that place is making so much money

I found Parish to be over priced as well. Its a cool spot but not worth it IMO

We always enjoy The Market on Norris Ferry... but we live out that way

What about Abby @ Robinson Film?

Everything I've heard about Flying Heart has been pretty negative. It's in a bad location, especially with all the construction in that area, and their beer isn't particularly good.

I haven't heard much from either RR or Flying Heart

I wonder how they are doing

Flying Heart is truly awful, so I wouldn't care if they closed, but I like RR well enough and like having another option for a taproom, although I'll choose GR 9/10 times

I'll give Flying Heart one thing... From a stout connoisseur: their Plantation Mud Stout was was off the hook. I've only ever found it at the airport and it was ten fricking dollars a pint but I was only sort of pissed when I got my bill. It's that good.

On topic, I can only speak for Cabo thus far. It's definitely solid food but Ki Mexico is head and shoulders above it. It neither out-gourmets Ki Mexico nor out-low-keys Michocana, so I doubt it makes its way into my rotation. Also no draft beer so: thumbs down.

To those that have had Parish, is it just that it's overpriced? Like, is the food great just too expensive? Or is the food just okay? Have been meaning to try it and have heard mixed reviews.

I went for lunch and ordered chips w/salsa and 2 tacos (Bohemian and Korean BBQ)

The Korean BBQ was very good, but the Bohemian was absolutely tasteless.

For a $15 lunch, I expected more from it. I see no reason for myself to go back when Ki is better, closer (to me) and cheaper.

I didn't know Rhino was expanding. That's great news. The South Highlands one is one my favorite spots in Shreveport.

Any news on the Forbing Ice House?

There will be a Rock-N-Sake in the same building/renovation Rhino is in. I know they just opened a Metairie one so hopefully they move fast on Shreveport.
