Shreveport dinner spot?

Going to the casinos from Dallas Saturday with friends and we're looking for a decent dinner spot. Anything highly recommended? Non-chain of course. Looking at pricing from $15 a person up to $35 a person. Let me know what you suggest!

if you're wanting to stay near the casinos:
Ernest's
Blind Tiger
Noble Savage (if you don't mind smoke)
L'Italiano

I'll add in Olive Street Bistro to that list.

absolutely. why anyone would go to Village Grille over Olive Street Bistro is beyond me .. but it happens.

Olive Street is great of course, but it ain't better than the Village. On the other hand, there's no such thing as a $15-35 meal at the Village.
To the OP, I'll second all the recommendations except Blind Tiger
Y'all might also like the Cub and it isn't too far from where you're staying.

You're out of your mind. Village's food is overrated and the service and atmosphere lack.

I recommended that because it's on the lower end of this guy's budget. It's not terrible food and if he wants to stay in the downtown area options are very limited.

Talk about a place that has fallen off

I actually like most things at Blind Tiger. And after all my life I've still never been to Village...but if the tradeoff is I never get to eat there but I can continue going to Olive Street whenever I want, I'd sign that contract all day long.

Only been to olive street once. Thought it was terrible and the retaurant smelled like sewage.

Olive Street Bistro in Shreveport
L'Italiano in Bossier
Unless you really dislike great Italian food in a great atmosphere at reasonable prices.

You and your friends are going piss away money at a casino, and you are worried about the cost of a meal.

Yeah, Olive Street is legit. The Village is awesome though - probably not a spot for a loud group of guys obviously, but a fantastic date spot. The apps are the best thing they serve, and change them up daily.
I've never been a huge fan of the Cub as a top-notch steakhouse like some pretend it is, but it's a good place for a group of guys - pretty good steak at not too much of a price - and with a connecting bar.
And depending on which casino y'all are staying at, you can get a good meal there.

Well that's simply wrong. Their cuts are quite high, especially for the size steak they now give you.

I guess we'll also have to agree to disagree on price
Haven't had a steak there in about a year - it wasn't as much as Superior, 2Johns, Ernests, etc.

Hey, I like the Village Grille AND Olive Street Bistro. Why not try them both and see which one you like better? The Grille is more expensive though. If you go there, ask for Phillip to be your server. Also get the Oysters Reynaldo appetizer or the spinach salad with the tableside flambe hot bacon dressing. The Olive Street Bistro's pappardelle and osso bucco are really good.
Village Grille
Olive Street Bistro
I also like Wine Country Bistro, Bella Fresca, Ristorante Giuseppe, Mabry House and Indigo Indian Bistro as well.
Enjoy your stay.

I can't even recommend The Cub anymore. I've given it 3 chances since Will quit cooking there and my steak has been downright BAD every time. It makes me sad.
For the OP:
Herby K - good food on a budget. Recommend the raw oysters and Shrimp Buster.
Texas Street Tavern - good steaks and hot waitresses.
Binion's Steakhouse at Horseshoe - fine steaks, decent prices.
The Vintage Steakhouse at El Dorado - also good steaks. And a good wine list from what I recall.
Noble Savage - rotating menu and a good chef. He always has a fowl, a fish, and a weird mammal on the menu.
I also agree with L'Italiano, and Bella Fresca (Shreveport's only AAA 4-Diamond restaurant).
No you don't. You like the idea of Wine Country, you like the menu at Wine Country, but you don't actually like the taste of the food. You eat it, telling yourself the kitchen's having a bad night, or that you got the only fatty piece of duck in the fridge, but you know the truth: the chef just isn't that good and the ambitious menu is too much for him.

I've had similar experiences in the last year or so there. Not nearly up to snuff with what I grew up eating at the Cub.

OK. So I'm not crazy. I'd never been to the Cub for the famous steak until this year. For all these years its been, steak at the cub, best in town, and the potatoes au gratin. Well I've had it twice this year and felt like I had to hold my true feelings in. the potatoes delivered like dominos, flawless. But I too felt like the steak wasn't the best I've ever had.
