Need to get one for kitchen and fillet knives. Which type do you have?

Some far off family member gave me this as a gift when I completed my MBA. It is perfect.

I just use one of those cheap diamond infused pieces of metal. One pass on both sides before I use a knife.

Do you know the angle of the blades? Looks like the ones posted would work for the German style 20 degree knives. I wouldn't put anything below 20 degrees like the Asian style as it could mess them up.

I tried stones and electric sharpeners and never was satisfied. Then my son, the hunter, recommended a steel.

Works like a charm.

I didn't say it was a sharpener. I said it was a steel. And I said it because that's what it is.

You implied that it sharpens your knives, which it doesn't

It makes the knife cut better. The 'sharpener' does not.

Maybe. But when I asked my son for advice about a new stone or a new sharpener he recommended against it and showed me how to use the steel. It works. And that's all I care about.

I agree, rather than learning the proper way to accomplish a task I prefer to just do what's easiest and what I think is the right way.

And how do you know that your knives are sharper than mine?

Because all you use is a honing steel

OK, why don't you tell me the proper sharpener to buy and how to use it?

You two need to take this cat fight to YouTube. Sharpen your knives then try to shave with them.
