Costco is better overall, we have memberships to both and shop both. Costco is visited more than Sam's.

Costco, and it's not even close (I'm thinking of the food, not the non-food stuff). Sam's is full of the cheapest of the cheap, whereas Costco has a decent selection of more interesting things & better brands. Stuff I routinely buy at Costco: buffalo milk mozzarella, aged English cheddar (Coastal), feta from Israel, Italian dry cured meats, prime beef, all-butter croissants (which freeze & reheat beautifully)....plus the Kirklands house brand is usually quality stuff.

Costco is better than Sam's, but for most people it might not make a difference.

Costco's house brand and higher end items are better IMO. That's the big difference. But if you just need large quantities of name brand items or normal household stuff, they're equivalent.

May be what I need. I will use it for some personal shopping but mainly it is for mass quantity shopping for tailgates.

Sams has an odd streak of hiring people with vitaligo. Just something I noticed.

I prefer Costco to Sam's. The major reason is the difference in customer service. Costco employees are more knowledgeable and enthusiastic than Sam's employees in general, and the store managers seem to manage their resources better, i.e. having enough cash registers open to handle the customer volume. Other departments I've found Costco superior were their pharmacy and optometry departments. Costco ground my dad's tri-focal lenses for over $150 less than Sam's would, and they had better frame selections.

Without taking any of the above into account I would still go to Costco for the superior meat and seafood selection and service.

The Costco brand liquor is cheap and legit. Look no further...

Costco.
We had a Sam's Club membership for a year and and never really got any food, outside of canned and packaged stuff. We probably go to Costco once a month and we've purchased steaks, brisket, take and bake pizza, casseroles, fresh produce.

Costco is much better, but I let my Costco lapse and renewed my Sam's card as it was too much of a bitch to drive to Costco when I live in Kenner a mile away from a Sams.

I go to sam's for this. They usually have good deal on meat.

Have a Costco card but haven't really shopped there.

Can't speak for Sam's but I love Costco. They have a great selection on so many products, and their Kirkland Signature brand is usually pretty good. Especially the liquor.

For tailgates, Costco liquor can't be beat. Their vodka is basically grey goose and is a steal. Their bourbon is a good mixer, but not great by itself.
