Taking my son to tour LaTech this Friday. Will do lunch in Ruston and hotel/dinner in W. Monroe. I have never been north of Folsom and open minded to any non-chain place.

Lunch in Ruston should be either Ponchotoulas or the Dawg House or Sundown

Dawg House has pretty good burgers and good greasy food.

Johnny's Pizza, its ok, don't tell anyone up there its overrated, just smile and eat.

Counter Culture has pretty good hot meat melts

Dinner at Casio's Tavern (Creole/Italian) on Trenton St in West Monroe. Or cross the river and eat at Cotton (Seafood, general badass fare) or Bacco (Italian) in Monroe.

Or if you're OT poor like I am and need a few meals that won't leave you broke, as far as West Monroe goes, I'd recommend Sam's Southern Eatery if you're wanting some fried seafood. Huge portions, low price, and good. The Creamery has really good burgers and you can finish it up with some ice cream. BBQ West is the best BBQ we have and it's really good. There are tons of decent Mexican and Chinese/Sushi/Hibachi places around town. And of course, it's already been mentioned, but Johnny's is a necessity.

I agree with this. I've also heard good things about Bacco and Casio's and would love to try them next time I'm up that way.

Cascio's was just ok, IMO. Would go back if someone else wanted to go, but wouldn't be my first choice. Cotton, on the other hand, I'd eat every night if my wallet could handle it.

I had to go over to WM for business a couple of weeks ago, and Yelp recommended lunch at Ray's Pege - it's a poboy place and it was really great.

Ray's is good, as is Magic Grill. Both taste about the same.

Thanks for all the awesome replies. Seems like I will be set.

I have actually lived in Oregon, Washington, Texas, Virginia, both Carolinas, Germany and Florida (home base). In Louisiana I have not been north of Folsom or west of Laffy. If the boy goes to Tech I am sure I will explore north LA. LSU does not have his degree nor does he care for the cities.
