Lucy’s, at 151 Third St., closed on Saturday. Work will begin Tuesday on rebranding the restaurant as Lava Cantina Downtown Baton Rouge.

At the same time, The Roux House will also undergo changes.

Plans are to rebrand the business as Repeal 33, a reference to Dec. 5, 1933, the date that Prohibition ended.

Repeal will be a gastropub, selling gourmet hamburgers, slow smoked meats, alcoholic milkshakes and high-end cocktails. The business will also sell frozen treats from Vaughn’s Rock N’ Pops business in Perkins Rowe.

As long as they keep the live bands at what is now Roux House, I like thr moves.

I give this two years before it's shut down, and I think I'm being extremely generous.

Ugh I liked Lucys. Lava Cantina blowws and the service is horrendous.

Never was a huge fan of the Roux House. Like the idea behind the new name. But hate the words gourmet, gastropub, and high-end.

And are both of these places going to stay open till 2? They just knocked out two bars on that side of third street leaving just Happys really.

Really? I'm a rock fan so I like lava's atmosphere. The food is ok.

However, I say good riddance to Lucy's. I thought that food apart from the Juicy Lucy blew and the service was worse. It went downhill ever since they got rid of the ping pong table.

Jesus. Lava Cantina is awful but this decision sounds pretty typical.

I would understand the Roux House move if they were struggling, but that place was always packed. Why take a solid business and try to turn it into something else? This place should fail pretty quickly.

Happy's owners are jumping up and down right now. Essentially no competition for that style of bar anymore on 3rd street. Maybe Boudreaux an Thibodeauxs, but thats it.

I'm surprised Lucy's hung around as long as it did. Every time I went, there was never a crowd.

I suppose they are trying to make it similar to "The Overpass Merchant", which seems to be doing pretty well. I hope it works.

I would go out downtown more often if they crowd were more young professionals than rif-raf from the surrounding area.

Not anymore. Happys and Walkons are one owner. Schlittz and Roux House are another. I actually think Lucy's was taken over by one of these owners too.

The Overpass works well there though. Has the right crowd in surrounding areas. People either go downtown for more of a party atmosphere or for more of an upscale outing where you can get drinks before/after. This is neither. I'm either going to spend alot of money at Little Village/Blend or I want to get a bunch of cheap drinks listening to live music at Happy's or formerly Roux House... I just don't get it. Probably get a good lunch/happy hour crowd, probably the only time I would go. Nothing like what Roux House would get from 10-2 though.

How so? We go relatively frequently, and I always thought roux house was pretty consistent

Good, both of those places suck. I'm sure repeal 33 will still be the only place on 3rd street to charge cover.
