Rocknbowl

How long will this place last on Jefferson and Lee in downtown Lafayette ? I am not familiar with the one in NOLA but it doesn't seem to be a good combination here, it's a huge investment and a big gamble. I'm I missing something ?

It's a New Orleans institution for a reason, bowling + live music is a fun combination.

ETA: No idea if they'll make it in Lafayette with a large investment, but it should definitely be popular. Popular enough? We'll see.

The one in Nola makes a shite load of money and is fun. They moved down the road after Katrina, but kind is kept the charm of the old place.

Bowling, bands, good food, and booze.
They do great with regular people looking for a night out, but stay busy with parties of all kinds and corporate events. Do you think Lafayette couldn't support something like this? It's not like a white trash version of Don Carters or something

Out of killing time before a game in Tampa, I stumbled across a place called Splitsville who have seven locations around the US. They don't have the live bands, but their claim to fame for a bowling alley is there menu. Lot's of sushi, filet sliders and other upscale (for a bowling alley) dishes. I actually went back on a return visit. Rock 'n Bowl's menu seems sort of pedestrian, except for the charcuterie plater.

After the initial rush I just don't see people w/ money going downtown for it. College kids won't keep you in business and downtown has a stink on it after 10 p.m. We shall see, but I wouldn't put up the kind of money the owner is to get this thing going. Wish him luck but it looks like a bad idea to me ?

They bought the entire Whitney Bank office building. The downstairs is being renovated for the Rock N' Bowl. The rest of the building will be leased for offices. And they have a lot of people lined up to move in there from what I've heard.

ETA - Don't know if it will work, hope it does. I'll support it. Just saying that the Rock N' Bowl won't be their only revenue stream.

Not the same unless you can walk to Ye Olde College Inn next store.

That's surprising considering the amount of office space available for lease around town

I agree. I'm just passing along what I've heard. We'll see.

I will admit I don't know the area of town it's going into or the traffic patterns for what people in Laffy like to do.
I just know that the one in Nola does very well. It's such a good product that someone built out a very expensive bowling alley downtown on Fulton Street to capture some of the market in Nola and I've heard they do very well.

I predict bad things, but love the concept and what I know about Rock n Bowl in Nola.

Rock n Bowl was born in Nola in a stable somewhat blue collar neighborhood when bowling was the new "it" recreational activity. Over time, it became an institution. Generations of people would always return to their old stand-by of Rock n Bowl.

I don't think you can pull a steady bowling crowd all the way across town, to downtown Lafayette, with little-to-no residential support, in an area struggling to gentrify.

You forgot women.

The Lafayette posters aren't optimistic.

I bowl in a no tap, casino league at Acadiana Lanes during the summer. They are gutting the place now to spruce it up, so they can compete with Rock N bowl. However, they are going to try to cater to the kids instead of adults. I would imagine Rock n bowl will be flush with adult leagues.

Agree. My wife and I are 31 and we live near River Ranch. The only time we go downtown Lafayette is for brunch at French Press or dinner at Pamplona's. Other than that, there is no reason for us to travel down there, when you have options closer. Parc Lafayette would have been a better location for their demographics, IMO. We shall see.

On a side note, any update on Dat Dog opening date?

Same here. Democrats have just about completely ruined downtown for me.

Something the council needs to address but they are too worried about smokers

As someone potentially moving back to Lafayette from NOLA (went to ULL for undergrad a few years ago), I think this is great news. Lafayette needs more for young professionals. The addition of Wurst near Pamplona, French Press & Agave was a great start IMO. Now someone needs to open up a Bacchnal/Oxalis/or Tchop Yard & add a few more trendy, New American restaurants.... then Lafayette would be complete.
