Winstons is your best bet. Metairie has tons of bars, but most of them suck

Mid-City Bulldog is five minutes from Winston's.

Since it's your wife's birthday, it seems like it would be a better idea to do what she feels like.

Good choice.

OP, if you want something with a nice environment without having to go downtown, Ralphs on the Park has a pretty nice bar area with music sometime as well as Oak Wine Bar, which is right off of Carrolton.

I like Winston's, but I remember it being filled with smoke. It's also been about 3 years since I have been (due to the smoke). Has this changed?

It's smoke free now.

Andy's Bistro has couches. They are outside, however.

I'd agree with this and they are setup with the way you are looking. Like 5 minutes away minus 2 or 3 red lights from Winstons' But staying in Metry that's a good place to go.
