Going out with a new lady friend for the first time; needs recs on maybe a good wine or cocktail bar. Can either be Metairie or Nola itself

For cocktails, go with Cure or Hot tin. Hot tin is the rooftop bar at the Ponchatrain Hotel LINK
Barrel Proof is pretty damn cool too

Wine- Delachaise, Oak Wine Bar, Bayou Wine Garden.

Another vote for Cure on Freret street and Cellar Door.

No experience with the others.

Cure is going to be douche central on a Saturday night. How nice of a bar are you thinking? Barrel Proof is more casual, but a place like Cane and Table is a little nicer. Bouligny Tavern is also nice, if you don't want to go downtown and they serve food.

Going to be packed on a Saturday night, but good choice if OP goes around 4 or so.

I agree with just about everything stated above but wanted to include Loa's in the Intercontinental and the Polo Club Lounge in the Windsor Court.

Loa's cocktails are all top notch and the Polo Club has a great atmosphere with live music and great cocktails to boot.

Also, Compere Lapin has an incredible drink offering and the head bartender (Annie?) can make you the perfect drink if you just describe what you like. I believe they are also up for a James Beard for best cocktail program for a restaurant.
