Have family coming from AZ. Thinking of taking them to R & O's. Had good reviews. What do you guys think?

Love that place. Get the cheese fries with brown gravy and the tamale balls for apps.

Best soft shell crab poboy I've ever had.

It's pretty good with lots of different things. It's my favorite roast beef poboy. Good fried food and surprisingly good pizza
Only negatives is the place feels dirty and rundown and the servers can be a little bitchy when they are busy

I really like R&O's. I love their muffaletta. Had pizza there for the first time last month. Thin and crispy crust. Good ingredients.

It's an old school place.

Great roast beef poboy. Good poboys in general. There is nothing fancy about R&Os which is why I like it. Decent food and service and the place is fairly kid friendly. I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

Deanies around the corner has a better seafood platter if that's what you want but I think overall R&Os is better for me.

Where else are you taking them?? If this is the only outing you have planned, and they are first time visitors, then ask yourself the question...is R&O the impression I want to give/leave them with. ~ Obviously if you have other venues in mind or they are not first time visitors to the area, then R&O's is OK for what it is.

N.O. Food and Spirits, next door to R&O's, has better fried seafood than Deanies and its not even close IMO. R&O's is nostalgic though and has better Po Boys.

NO Food and Spirits is terrible

It makes Deanie's, R&O's and Mr Ed's look like Commander's Palace

You are out of your mind. Deanie's is at the bottom of the list for me. I laugh at the tour buses full of fatties pulling up there daily.

R&O's is probably my favorite low end restaurant in Metairie. Would recommend 100%

R&O's is a place I grew up going to, and the poboys are solid.

It wouldn't even be close to on my radar for first time visitors, but to each his own I guess.

Deanie's can fry seafood

You want to talk about fatties, go to NO F&S any night of the week. They line up for heaping piles of frozen shrimp fried in old oil. Place stays packed with trash

Deanies fried stuff is ok. Sometimes it taste like they fry everything in the same batter/oil.

What the hell do I know though. I've tried to cut way back on fried stuff the last few years and haven't eaten much of it.

I haven't had any of that happen to me. It used to be better before all the renovations. I also haven't eaten there much after the renovations.

I'm not a fan of NOFS but I will say this:

If they still make that smothered rabbit lunch on Thursdays, that shite is worth trying if you have never had it. It used to sell out by 1:00pm. Not sure if thy still do it or what the quality is like now. I haven't had that in about 8 years and it was at the Harvey location.
