Have any of you had a problem conversing in a restaurant because the amplifiers were too loud?

On Sundays Copeland's in Shreveport has 'Jazz Brunch' although the group didn't play jazz...just oldies pop with vocals.

The music is so loud you have to yell at the person sitting next to you. What's the etiquette?
a. Ask them to turn it down?
b. Advise the manager?
c. Vote with your feet by not going back?

'C' seems to be happening because Copeland's used to have a long line waiting to get in before Jazz Brunch was introduced. Now half the place was empty.

Generally, I really despise live music in a restaurant.

Live music means you're compensating for something.

C. Live music is okay on a patio or other outdoor setting at a restaurant. Indoors I would think the most you'd want is someone playing piano. No vocals.

Frankly, I do all three. I ask if they are willing to turn it down. If they don't, I alert the manager if they come around before I leave (as a general rule, I don't go out of my way to talk to a manager). After one bad experience, I generally won't go back on days I know there will be live music.

C.

I hate live music in restaurants, so I don't visit restaurants with live music (outside of like a piano player). A restaurant with live music is probably doing it purposely as a gimmick -- you can't really ask them to "turn it down" IMO. It isn't the radio turned up too high. It is their whole "theme".

It completely depends on the restaurant and setting. Copelands...I'd probably say something depending if I really had problems conversing with the person next to me.

However, I've seen someone (assuming tourist) complain about the live music at The Family Wash. It's a bar/restaurant/live music venue that's really big with the music and entertainment crowd.

The manager, dumbfounded, looked over me and I couldn't help but crack up. He said something to the extent that, "You're in Nashville...we kinda got this music thing going on here..."

I used to live 1 block from the Family Wash. CSB

Eta, Live music in restaurants in Nashville is a whole 'nother story. You can't draw conclusions about about live music in restaurants from any venue in Nashville. Just a different kind of city
