Hello again guys.
Looks like I'm back at it.
A couple years ago, I lost about 50 lbs, down to 237 from 287. Well, over the last 20 months, I "re-fatted" to the tune of 53 pounds, and reached an all time high of 290.
I have a 21 hour trip to Australia in June, and don't want to be "that guy". Last April, I went to Europe at about 265, and it sucked. Very uncomfortable (Well, it really didn't suck, it was an awesome trip ).
Anyway, back at it. First month will be basically starvation. Less than 1000 calories a day; fast on Saturdays, except for maybe coffee or diet coke or something. I eat mostly vegetables, and fish or egg substitute 2 or 3 times a week.
Weighed 290 on Jan. 1. SO:
290/276.5/199
I would like to reach 220 by June 1. Jan: -20; Feb: -20; March: -10; April: -10; May: -10.

Good luck- 1000 calories a day does not seem like a healthy diet, nor does it seem maintainable over the long term. But it will probably get you where you want to be in the short term

Anyone think this would work: doing a strict Atkins diet Monday - Friday and eat carbs on Saturday and Sunday. Would you gain, lose or maintain?

Cyclic ketogenic dieting is a pretty popular method - It works if you do it right, but not really well if your carbs are cheat meals.
Speaking of cheat meals, I was a bad, bad dieter this weekend. Back on it tonight.

Anniversary lunch at the salt lick erased last week's loss, as expected.

How much could you lose doing this diet? Is it better than doing just Atkins?
Posted on 1/20/14 at 7:14 pm to Paul Allen
Doesn't matter what diet you go with, your daily calorie deficit is how pounds are lost.
Your body can only burn off up to around three pounds of fat a week. Sure you can lose more weight in a week but it will mostly be water or muscle after two pounds.
Much of the early weight loss in the Atkins/low carb diets is water.
Stick to a net calorie in/out plan and the weight will drop over time.
ETA: there are things you can do in your diet that can help such as eating more protein instead of fat or carbs. It takes more calories for you body to process protein than fat/carbs thus assisting in the calorie deficit.

Interesting input. I just find that if I cut carbs I lose weight faster.

Today's weigh in at 238 officially marks the 75 pound lost mark Time to start the push for 80 (and eventually 100)

You're not the only one. You may be sensitive to carbs, as I am. When I get on a ketogenic diet the weight comes off pretty easily. I just don't like the limited options and lack of fruits/veggies in a ketogenic diet and I don't think that, for me, a ketogenic diet is sustainable for life.
So I haven't lost any weight in a while, haven't gained.. but I was right about my own body composition changing. My waist is down 3" since the last time I measured, my hips stayed the same, my chest is 2" smaller, but my shoulders are way bigger. So stuff is happening.. just frustrating to not see the scale move.

That sounds right.
Couple years ago after I had lost about 45 pounds or so, I "celebrated" by going to Texas de Brazil. I had denied myself tasty food and red meat for 2 1/2 months, so I went all out.
Scale said 10 pounds gained 30 hours later. It came off relatively quickly because it was water retention due to the high salt content of the tasty, tasty dead cow meat.

I'm fricking starving. Saturday I survived a kid's bday party at Gatti's, and got the salad bar at a BBQ joint for lunch today. When I reach the 250s, I'll probably eat something decent, like a burger from Brewbacher's.
