Purloo, the Southern-themed restaurant inside the Central City's Southern Food and Beverage Museum, has closed. According to a statement on the restaurant's Facebook page, Purloo will reopen after the summer in a new location.

This comes as no surprise to me. I've been a few times, and never came away impressed. Always pretty solid, but never blown away.
Chef Ryan needs to give up on this "Purloo" concept anyway.

The food was pretty good. It was just like the food you get in Jackson, MS or Birmingham, AL. I'm not surprised the concept didn't take here.

Isn't High Hat the same style of Delta cooking?

I can't imagine the location didn't have something to do with this. You're in Central City and there is not a lot of places to park.

Maybe, but Primitivo down the street is even further in Central City and also with no parking, but their food is excellent and last I heard after a sluggish start they are doing really well.

There was more than adequate parking on OC Haley for the tables they had. Frankly, not sure sharing the bldg with that "museum" helped. Having all things AL Copeland displayed prominently in the adjacent front window does little for a restaurant at that price point.

has nothing to do with the geographic location. Has everything to do with location inside a museum and overpriced food.

For me it does, I don't want to go eat there at night. Because I'm a P*$$y I guess.

have you been over there for any time? I mean, im not grabbing a beer and roaming the neighborhood at night, but to park reasonably close and walk back and forth i wouldnt think twice.

I stayed in an apt for 6 weeks that was blocks off of Haley (directly across from Purloo). Had no issues and never felt unsafe.

I never heard a good report about the place. No really bad ones, just a bunch of "okay" and "meh". Agree that the museum connection did nothing for me. We ahold do a separate thread on the museum.
