Proof you don't have to sell boring beer to pay the bills

I've read on here a lot that breweries need to have beers like blondes or ambers or something like Canebrake to pay the bills so they can afford to make the "good" stuff. To this notion I call bullshite:
Founder's is funding a $40M expansion thanks to All Day IPA
Dear new breweries coming to Louisiana,
Make a kick arse single IPA and you won't be able to keep up with demand and will be printing money.

I have talked to enough people intimately familiar with the economics of craft beer sales in LA to know that the top sellers are almost always, across the board the "boring" beers. Maybe in 10 years the palates will shift to hoppier offerings, but in LA we still have lots and lots of new craft beer drinkers.
Take Great Raft for example - they make a great APA but their sales (last time I checked anyway - correct me if I'm wrong) still reflected the market preference for their Pale Lager - the more "boring" beer.

I also read here that session IPAs suck

All day is good when you can find it fresh

I'm a fan of all day, had a keg at the camp this past weekend.

I put all day ipa on the same class as blondes and ambers. Boring.

I'll add that doing this isn't the easiest thing in the world. I know hop availability is a huge issue in the craft beer industry. Throw in the fact that not all session IPAs are created equal, and the task of developing a hoppy beer that normal beer drinkers buy in large quantities becomes very difficult or almost impossible.
Making lower IBU beers is safer for the average consumer and you don't have to worry as much about your hops, etc...

There isn't single IPA that is worth buying that is made in Louisiana. If Bayou teche Peach IPA get bottle it will sell well

a lot of people disagree with you, fortunately

While I'm an avid IPA drinker, you are citing the exception rather than the rule. That's a fallacy brother.

This. It's been stated numerous times on this board that Andrew at Parish has to keep the manufacturing of Canebrake rev'ed up because that's his money-maker.
Bayou Teche's LA 31 Pale Ale, widely known amongst beer "mavens" as a not very good pale ale, is their top seller, ranking above Cocodrie, which is actually a good, tasty beer.

I've been told they are considering shifting to 6 packs of this beer, must like Cocodrie. If so, I agree it should sell good amongst the local IPA crowd. It is a pretty good beer.

not having the sales figures from other breweries, how do we know it is an exception?
We do know there is such a demand for easy drinking hop forward beers like session IPAs that in the short time since early 2012 when All Day was introduced until now it accounts for half of Founders' production.

Founder's distributes into states where interest in craft beer, especially hoppy craft, is much higher than that in Louisiana. Walk around the tailgating area of an LSU game, then walk around one at say...Michigan.
Only two Louisiana-based breweries distribute outside of Louisiana, Abita and Bayou Teche.

So do you think Oskar Blues has fueled its growth on Mama's Lil Yellow Pils or Dales?
You think Lagunitas is brewing more Pils than IPA?
How about Sierra Nevada? You think they made bank on Kellerwies?
The public in general eats and drinks stuff that is cheap and marketed well. Thus the success of Bud Light, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, etc. But times are changing for all of those companies as people start figuring out there are better options.

You're not the target market and you're bitching and calling it a terrible idea. Typical baby boomer.

I think you underestimate the interest in craft beer in Louisiana, and the desire of Louisiana folks to support local business.
