Hosting a dinner on Friday Night as a celebration for a graduate. Want to know if anyone has any recommendations for a Butcher in the New Orleans area that has Prime Filet.

I was surprised to see that my local Rouses actually has Prime Filet, and could use them, but would like other suggestions.

Also, any idea what it should go for? I know Rouses has it for $25/lb. That seems reasonable to me.

Costco carries prime. Price should be a little cheaper than Rouses

Restaurant Depot.

But seriously, screw prime beef. Crawfish are a buck twenty nine a pound and make for a way better party.

you won't be able to tell the difference between a prime filet and any other decent grade. Filet is going to be what it's going to be (tender and not a whole lot of marbling). I wouldn't spend 25/lb for that

a prime strip or ribeye however you would get more bang for your buck. If you are in nola try langensteins or restaurant depot

Buy a PSMO from Cost CO and butcher it yourself.

That's the best value.

Yep, filet is filet... lean & tender.

Save the money and buy choice!

#5 & up? If so you can get 8-8oz filets out of it if you cut it right.

Costco's tenderloins were $22.99 a pound this last Saturday. Didn't say prime but they were mighty good.

I love filet. I have had prime, choice, and select. I swear I can't tell the difference. Maybe it's just me. On that note, the best value I've found on filet is at Soprano's grocery in Livonia. Not sure if it is choice or select, but can usually get it for 8.99 a pound or so whole. $40 for a whole tenderloin. I had a prime filet from Alexander's the other day and it was no better at $22 a pound than the stuff I get all the time from sopranos.

I wouldn't buy prime fillets. Just buy choice. Prime is worth it on cuts with more fat/ marbling.

Eta- what they said ^

Langenstien's on Metairie Road has prime filets and strips. They are fantastic. We can cook them better at home than most steakhouses can.
