Thing is awesome.
Anyone who doesn't have one needs to check it out.
I've cooked awesome roasts, ribs, and soups in a ridiculously short amount of time.
LINK
Anyone else use one of these regularly?

My buddies mom from Costa Rica uses one and makes some pretty amazing stuff.
I'm gonna have to shop around for one.

Net I may have one you can have. We have never used it, and we got it as a wedding present. I have been told anything you can do in a pressure cooker you can do in a slow cooker. You just need to prepare.

someone gave my mom one similar for Christmas. and she has no idea how to use it.
i read the directions & gave it a shot while in town over the holidays with a 3-4# pork butt and i think it was too big and i over crowded the pot inside. hot grease and cooking liquid shot everywhere when i went to release that valve on top. it was kind of funny.
it didn't cook evenly and took about 2 hours to just get it to where it was just cooked through. and not falling off the bone like it i thought it was gonna be.
this particular one has a sear/brown setting that i like. but i should probably get in some more practice with it because i have heard nothing but good things. any pointers will be appreciated.

I don't have one, but I saw Alton Brown post some pics to Instagram of some greens he made in his pressure cooker and it really makes me want one.

You have been told wrong.

Not the same at all.
A pressure cooker cuts cook time in half.
You can cook an incredible roast in 45 minutes.
The whole point of the pressure cooker is to be able to cook food in a fast amount of time.

I have a Fissler stove top pressure cooker that I use every week. In fact, tonight I will make short ribs after I get home from the office. This will take about 50 minutes start to finish.
Probably my favorite kitchen gadget. Finding recipes for it is a google away.

That's what I'm talking about.
When I cooked the roast in it, I thought no way in hell this thing would be done in 45 minutes and would be tender.
Blew my mind when I tried it.

I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet (cabinet space! kidding), but my Modernist Cuisine book has a lot of things made in a pressure cooker that look fantastic. Looks like a really awesome way to cook vegetables to puree for soup.

soup.
Cooked a chicken fajita soup in it that took 7 minutes that came out fantastic.
You can cook soups fast as hell.

I need to buy a pressure cooker. Any recs? Want a stovetop model, not an electric one.

The link I posted is a Wolf Gang Puck electric model which is the one I have.
Have never dealt with stove top, but I have to think the electric route is easier to deal with considering it cooks by itself.

Check out Fissler.com
I have had one of these for about 3 years and could not go without it. Kinda pricey though but I bought it on woot for half off.

My wife's grandmother got us one several years ago. All the grandkids got one. They were all looking at each other funny when they opened them. But I use it a good bit. My favorite thing is to make boiled peanuts in it. Since cooking them in a pot on the stove for a couple of hours tends to make the house smell for days, I would cook it on my side burner on the grill and all the smell would be outside. Bring it in when they're done and enjoy.
I've also done a few stews in it. Really fast.

Chicken/turkey and gravy, smothered pork chops, pot roast, red beans, among other things. I love mines. Tons of good recipes on pinterest. I've been planning to make barbacoa and al pastor tacos next.
