Toying with opening a seafood market in the 70808. Outside of boiled seafood what are you traveling to buy or missknf in our area? What would you like to see available of a daily/weekly basis?

More importantly- so you think it's needed?

Just copy Tony's. Maybe specialize more in salt water (tuna, redfish, snapper, black drum) rather than catfish. Also shellfish such as crab and shrimp consistently. Additionally, sell a variety of oysters and advertise where each comes from.

Something like Tonys but don't accept LA Purchase cards.

Go to LA Boilers if you want to see what not to do.

Jumbo lump crabmeat, claw meat, crab claws, head on jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined various size shrimp not having been previously frozen, oysters in and out of the shell with liquor, fresh fish including on the half shell, fresh and frozen crawfish tails, live and boiled crawfish ....

And no Chinese seafood.

Soft shell crabs & a good gumbo.

I do think it's needed.

Hope you have established connections to a supply chain for fresh product. Freshness at a good price is key.

And nothing from China as Gris Gris noted

This.

The 70809 and 70810 markets would flock to this as well. I think it could be a big success if marketed / presented properly.

If can't find a good seafood market in Houston you haven't been looking real hard.

Not in BR imo. Drop this hypothetical place in the 70808 where they're building Superior Grill(next to Roberts who doesn't accept LA Purchase cards) on Highland road and you would be just fine. That zip code and the neighboring 70810 has plenty enough money to keep the place open.

Thanks guys.

Mixed feelings about La purchase cards, but have been told it would be stupid not to accept it.

Would def be focused on salt water species as well as live/boiled shellfish during the seasons.

Thanks for the advice. I already have a location pretty much that has a very competitive rate for the area. The business model is not strictly grab and go seafood so I would not solely be dependent on that aspect.

that goes for any small margin business...if the cost of entry (rent, building, land, buildout) is too high then yes the chances of success are small. south BR is quickly running out of affordable commercial property/space but there's still some left.

It doesn't have to be something nicer than Tonys. Tonys would be just fine minus a few things.

LA Boilers is right in the middle of the area, have been for awhile, and they put out garbage products and they stay afloat.
