I've never been before. This place made my DC vacation a cool gastro experience. So I call on the FDB board for some San Francisco treats. Oakland maybe too, as I plan to hit up Oaksterdam.

For Italian: Perbacco in the financial district, A16 and Ristobar in the Marina, Acquarello on Sacramento if you want a little higher end romantic experience (I think).

For CA cuisine: Zuni Cafe, Prospect, Blvd, NOPA.

Chinese: R&G Lounge, Tiong Kiang, City View for dim sum.

I'll add more if any great ones I've neglected come to me .

Alameda (island across from Oakland)

1400 Bar and Grill - good food and atmosphere

Nation's Giant Hamburgers (the pies are deeeeeeelicious!)

In Oakland (all waterfront):

Jack's Bistro
Scott's Seafood Grill
Heinhold's First and Last Chance Saloon

The Alembic is my favorite place In SF. Bar/restaurant in the Haight. Also l, If you make reservations for the French Laundry in Yountville now you just may be able to get in.

Alembic is a great place. My friend does the beer list there.

OP, are you a beer snob?

The slanted door was fantastic in the ferry building on a recent trip

Ive never understood the hype I gets. Maybe I'm just going at unlucky times. Good but not great food.

I kind of agree with this. The pork meatball sandwich at "Out the Door" the takeaway counter out in the Ferry Terminal is pretty friggin good.

I would strongly recommend going to the Ferry terminal and grazing, particularly if you're there on Saturday. The porchetta sandwich at the Roli Roti truck on the south side of the building on Sat morning is top notch.

Great city for Whiskey too.

Agree about Slanted Door.

Lithium is trolling.
