Places to eat in North La. along La. 425
Posted by timbo on 8/3/15 at 2:19 pm01
We're driving from Baton Rouge to Little Rock next week. The plan is to through Winnsboro/Rayville/Bastrop around lunchtime on Friday. Any good local places we should stop at for lunch? Or are we better off with fast food?

Goin thru Tallulah/Transylvania/Lake Village is quicker.
I suggest a breakfast plate ir a burger at Big Johns n Winnsboro.
I used to make that trip every other week for 5 years... To LR from BR... Its brutal & a food wasteland from Ferriday to Lake Village

I think Strong's in Mangham is really good for just a country buffet. Its on 425 on your left just before you get through Mangham.

Condolences for having to venture through that wasteland.

I agree; haven't found anything in that area to compare. The way it was explained to me at the Big John's in Ferriday is that 3 brothers operate the 3 big Johns: the buffet in Rayville, the Burger shop in Ferriday and the cafe/drive thru in Winnsboro. Have tried all 3 several times, mostly burgers and po-boys, and they are the best bet in area that's lacking in food options.

I'm at the beach Count, he's good.
OP, you're fricked. I would eat at Big Johns in Winnsboro and get a cheeseburger. Or the aforementioned Rayvegas Sonic. If you make it to Bastrop eat at Slayden's BBQ. you'll dive right by it north of town. And buy your beer there if you plan on drinking while you drive, which I recommend. Those pine trees from Strop to Pine Bluff are brutal. And it's dry counties.

Go up through Mississippi into the Delta to cross the river in Greenville, and eat at the original Does there.

There is a Johnny's Pizza in Winnsboro.
The rest is just a bunch of shite.

Or hit the round table at Walnut Hills in Vicksburg. Awesome lunch.

Take a short detour in Bastrop and take La 2 east and go (about 17 miles) to Oak Grove. Go to the Little Freezer, on the square, and get a foot long hot dog and chocolate malt. They have excellent catfish as well. Then take Hwy 17N to Eudora, AR and Hwy 165 and continue north. The hot dog will change your life

It's not that bad. It's rural, which is good.

Get a nilla shake at the Snack Shack in Sicily Island, burger at Big Johns in Winnsboro, do em in reverse, desert first.
Shakes are good at big johns as well, but, you'll suck on it and will have a tremendous headache before you get anything to pass thru that straw, by the time you get to I-20.
