It's a top-5 pie in the city.

It's fantastic, I think. Best sort of NY style pizza in town. They do great homemade pasta dishes as well.

Great slice. The ceasar salad is great too.

I haven't been, but heard two friends from y'all's neck of the woods in disagreement about this place.

One was trying to recruit people to go there to lunch recently based on good recommendations he's heard, other friend said the place is over hyped by hipsters (and yet he's never been).

Is there any hype? If yes, is it an appropriate level?

Hipsters overhype everything, but Pizza D is legit.

Great to split a margherita and a caesar, or just grab a slice or two of pepperoni.

If they have the Greg & Mike's meatball pie on special, get that.

I haven't had the pastas yet, but someone got the carbonara last time I was there and it looked tremendous.

is it a decent spot to drop by if you need to get in and out quickly?

Depends on where you're headed and what time of day. It's pretty far from many things, but if you're out that way it can be convenient. In the evenings I've seen it absolutely slammed, but if you're just doing carry-out the line moves quickly.

pizza is awesome but I also tried the Roasted Brussels spouts & pork pasta which was badass!! I don't really like BS either. The pasta was homemade.

I tried it out a few weeks ago. We ordered slices of pepperoni and the special of the day (roasted cauliflower) and and the garlic knots.

Pizza was good NY-style, but the garlic knots did a number on my stomach.

Is it overhyped? Possibly. Is it worth the trip to Bywater from Uptown, Mid-City, etc.? Sure, if you want NY pizza.

Did you cross the bridge and smoke some grass?

eta..I doubt many police officers could make it across the bridge. It's basically a "free to do what you want" zone.

I don't have a neckbeard or a fixie nor could I remotely be described as a hipster, but I love PD. Hype is hype--no way to know if you'll think it is overrated unless you actually eat the pizza yourself. It's not fancy, it's a neighborhood pizza joint. A couple salads, a couple pastas, but the pizzas are the main event. I had a meatball & caramelized onion pizza a couple weeks ago that was damn good, and the pepperoni is solid (and greasy as it should be). It's a crust seemingly made for reheating--PD is nearly as good the second time around as the first (can't say that about an Ancora or Domenica pie, as much as I love those two places).

The garlic knots always seem a bit underdone to me, and they're the "sinker" kind soaked in garlicky oil. One or two is way more than you need, though they reheat well. Texture wise, they're just like Brooklyn Pizza (in Metairie). IOW, the opposite end of the spectrum from Pizza Domenica's feathery-light, slightly charred knots, which I can't get enough of.

This blind hipster hate on here gets a little oLd. So far hipsters are responsible for opening an awesome pizza place, a food emporium, multiple restaurants, bars, etc...

God hipsters really suck! Go away hipsters so we can have nice things like abandoned buildings again.

a little?
I don't even know what it means. Based on context, it seems that those calling out hipsters have become hipsters by doing so.
