Thinking about buying one. Is it worth it?

Yes, but get the more expensive stainless steel, not a plastic one.

I like mine, but it leaves a lot of waste around the sides unless you have just the right size pineapple.

I can see it being worth it if you want to try and reuse the pineapple for decoration or cup, but I just buy them whole, or I let Albertson's do the cutting for about $.25 more.

I am considering the stainless steel one from Bed Bath and Beyond. I have read good reviews, but some have said there is a lot of wasted pineapple.

For me it would be just another single use gadget that would take up space, get a good chefs knife and practice a little

I don't know where the waste would be...We cut off the top, core it and use the slices..

once you get the feel for it, you could hollow out the shell enough to use as a cup..

I got a stainless one on ebay for $1.99 with no shipping. It tool a month to come in from China, but it is awesome.

I bought a plastic one at a Williams Sonoma discount sale...it was total crap. Not sharp enough to do the job without huge strength, it wasted plenty of good fruit, and it covered a 4x4 section of countertop in pineapple juice.

It's easy to core and slice a pineapple, so I've wondered why bother buying a device. You can slice a pineapple and use a small biscuit cutter on each slice to get the core out. If you quarter the pineapple, you can slice the core right off the quarters.

If you want to leave the peeled pineapple whole, but cored, take a long filet knife and cut around the core and slip it out.

Peeling a pineapple is pretty easy, too. Takes a very little time to get the remaining eyes off.

Did the same thing on amazon. Works great but it does leave a little behind. Unless you are using it to make cups with or doing a bunch of pineapple I'll use the knife.
