Just went tonight with wife

I am too young to know about the old locations but we talked to two pair of couples in a row at the bar who mentioned frequenting the old one. So this place is definitely filled with nostalgic folks

Chargrilled oysters were above average. I think parrains has better but the Orleans style was different in a good way. Imagine a Buttery BBQ type flavor. That was enough to make me want to try the place again.

Oysters came out with my meal which was disappointing. I got half grilled shrimp and half fried shrimp po buy. Plenty of shrimp which was nice but bread choice was poor. Above average at best. Doesn't come with a side.

Wife got Antoinette salad. A kind of crab meat mixed in with a white horseradish based sauce/dressing. It was average and small portioned.

Atmosphere was pleasant. Casual and relaxed with cool memorabilia on wall. Clean look.

Wait staff was great. We were at bar though.

Overpriced but would come back

I went there tonight for my first time. I sat at the bar. My waitress was very pleasant and the service was very good.

I ate one dozen raw oysters, a cup of gumbo, shrimp remoulade, and drank a draft beer. My with a 20 percent tip the bill was $48.00.

I would grade the oysters C+, the gumbo C-, and the shrimp remoulade A.

I will go back.

The funny thing is he wants to go back after eating C grade gumbo and oysters.

Whereas the bill initially looks high, if you get to the Chimes before 7pm 1/2 price oysters (all day Tuesday), you'd pay $40 for the same meal. If you would pay full price for oysters, the bill would be about the same. The chimes shrimp remoulade is $16. I haven't had that in years. I hope it's worth it.

The Chimes' gumbo is delicious and they're oysters are usually great. Not Grade C.
