Guys and Gals,
I know reviews can be harsh on this board and expectations can be high. Rightfully so when you are spending your hard earned money.
I don't have any "board" cred, but I like this place. 4th time here and it's been good every time. I'm from the Acadiana area and this place is the only one in Baton Rouge that reminds me of home.
Tonight we had crawfish boullettes , fried gator , étouffée , frog legs , crab dinner and catfish. All damn fine. Previously have had the oysters , the gumbo and the duck and it's been on the money.
Maybe the location isn't right , but the service is fantastic and the owner is a genuinely nice guy it seems.
I'd say give it a shot if you want some Acadiana style seafood. I think it's better than the one in Henderson and the old one on Hwy 90.
Just giving a heads up for anyone that maybe likes that style of cooking.

To each his own. I've had 2 disgusting meals there. Won't be back for a third.

I've never gone to Pat's because of the terrible reviews I've read on here. I just checked out their online menu and the prices look pretty steep. But that's not unusual because a lot of places like Portobello's for example get a premium for marginal food. I'd like to hear some good things about Pat's from a few other posters before I give them a try.

I used to like their Lake Chrles location all right, but BR has too many other options of great restaurants to go to that I see no point in going to a high priced and mediocre place.

Pat's food is horrible and the prices are insane. You've gotta be either an employee or a Huval family member.

I can't speak for the food, but I have only heard bad things. Plus, if I remember correctly, the gumbo was like $20 or something.

No.

I've only been once, and I left most my food on the table. Worst experience of my life.

Interesting.
Well seems to be agreement here.

I like the place , though.
I ate at the bar last night and this fella from thibodaux was there eating , as well ,and we struck up a conversation about the food. He was once a cook at Politze in Thibodaux and he was also sayin how much he liked the food there. A table of people from Lafayette came and asked to speak to the owner and he came out and the heaped praise on him sayin this was good Acadiana style food and , of course , I agreed.

No issue with the posts in this thread, just saying some others have a much different opinion and I suppose coincidentally , it was primarily people from areas with a tradition of good food , which I wouldn't say Baton Rouge has much in comparison.
Regardless, I've eaten there a few times and enjoyed it very much.
Like I said , reminds me more of home than any other restaurant I've eaten at in Baton Rouge.

I had a crawfish platter and it came with étouffée. It also came with a crawfish pie. The problem is, the pie was nothing more than more étouffée stuck in a pie shell. The "stuffed bell pepper" was actually 1/3 of a bell pepper and I are it in two bites. Just look at the photo -- it was pitiful... not to mention expensive.

Hardly a platter. I did not have them on my radar and probably never will. The last two times I ate in Henderson it had gone down. And I must say I really used to like the place - enough to drive from Baton Rouge just to eat there.

Probably because you work there.

Zero percent chance any of that actually happened. That place is junk.

Besides the fact that it is painfully obvious you're an owner, employee, or family member/friend.. you're not going to get anywhere coming here and insulting people. Baton Rouge is 45 minutes away from Lafayette and they cook primarily in the Cajun style (rather than Creole).

Sure, things like good boudin, grillades, ponce, etc. aren't so much normal home cooking here like they are in Cajun country -- but this restaurant serves none of those things anyway. I've had red beans, gumbo, jambalaya, and étouffée in BR that were all comparable to my family's cooking in Basile. Some even better.

Everyone here is in agreement, and you take that and turn it into an insult claiming BR people just don't know "good food". For that alone, I hope for your sake that you aren't affiliated with the restaurant.

ETA: This shouldn't be surprising to you either -- as the Yelp average for the place is 2 stars.

Fried items were ok until they tried to make stuffed items. Stuffed shrimp, stuffed bell pepper...the stuffing taste like cardboard. I am not a picky eater and never complain at restaurants but I couldn't even eat my food. I had the Creole Shrimp Platter. It didn't even come with the correct quantity of shrimp. I had 1 fried shrimp, 1 stuffed shrimp (shrimp wrapped in cardboard), 2 of the tiniest specks of cocktail shrimp. I didn't even know shrimp came that small. It was also suppose to have hushpuppies but they left those out. I had a cup of gumbo and it was pretty good. That was about all I ate for $24.95. I really wish I had taken a picture.

I give it less than a year before they close up shop and head back to Henderson. Like another poster said, I really used to like the one in Henderson -- it's a really cool little vibe they have out there, their own little nook right by the bayou with the dance hall and everything. But the BR location is a travesty.

I bet that was $38.

You think that picture above, and the food that Pat's on Jefferson puts out, is the same food that made that region famous?

That looks like Piccadilly quality.

I find it comical that their stuffed mushroom appetizer is $18

My apologies sir, us lowly Baton Rougeans aren't smart enough to know when the greatest food in the world is at our doorstep. Admins, please flag all Baton Rougeans so the intelligent posters from elsewhere can know which opinions to discount.

When I went, I found the food to be good, but not special. The prices weren't bad (outside of the comically priced apps), but there are better options at that price point. The service was a little slow, but still reasonable.

It's not a bad place, just not exceptional in any way. There are better places in terms of quality, price, portions, atmosphere, and service, but also worse ones as well.

It's just...average.
