Panera Bread, the fast-growing sandwich chain, plans to open its first Louisiana location in Baton Rouge. Company officials say they are looking at potential sites in Baton Rouge and plan to have a restaurant open in 2011. Panera Bread, based in St. Louis, has more than 1,400 bakery-cafes in the U.S. and Canada. The chain bakes various breads in-house and uses them in sandwiches and as bowls for soups.

If you've ever had the chance to have Panera Bread, this should get you excited. One of my favorite places, always have to get it when I see it.

Hooray...more chains

Put it next to the chilis, flingers, outbacks, etc.

P.S. I'll probably go get some Panera Bread whenever it gets here cause i'm a sellout.

Panera is solid.

The anti chain talk is silly when it comes to a place that serves bagels, croissants and scones for breakfast and soup, sandwiches and salad for lunch.

Having lived in STL for a few years(6) it is not a "chain" as you se easily diss. It is first and foremost an artisanal bread bakery. Has some very good stuff. The foods that they serve a very down to earth, nutritious alternatives to all of the crap you just described.

Panera Bread is solid! Happy they are coming! Not a huge fan of chains either, but this is one I'm glad will finally be here.

I don't know. I'm a sucker for the chicken carbonara w/ chipotle southwestern sause and Mrs. Vickies jalapeno chips

I'd take Panera over a lot of local mom and pop places even in a city like NOLA

It's solid food for a chain

I don't get the obsession with this place.

I don't think there is an obsession. It's just a pretty decent place to eat.
