Was having a couple beers and some apps with some old friends and received from disconcerting news.... Was told it's terrible and they changed some recipes and most of the seafood taste like it comes straight out of a freezer. They said it's very disappointing b/c everyone loves going there when it was on menge. Was looking forward to going tonight since its reopened.... Prolly do Hooks now unless I get a different set of news here

I had one of the specials when I went and it was damn good. It was a salmon dish served rare upon request, and it and everything on the plate was great. We had a baked cheese app that was great as well.

I've heard negative things and I saw a couple send a dish back...but it's tough to say...it definitely doesn't have the charm it had. Some apps at the bar would be good, just to see what's coming out.

Went to 200NB last night and the oysters and peel and eat shrimp were both amazing. Not sure if Trapanis has trout right now (if they do it would be worth a trip, their royal reds are great right now). Sycamore house usually does a great Amandine and they offer tuna and salmon from the grill. Had a great whole snapper dish at the Oyster Reef once. That's my random what-else is out there summary.

IDK, if you go to Hooks give a review.

Been to Hooks a few times. Always ordered some type of fish and it has been great. 200 NB and Sycamore house are hard to beat in the Bay. Have y'all been to the new Ricky's yet? Trout Treasures at his previous two locations were incredible.

I can't ever find Ricky's open. Love to try their new place I just don't know when they're actual open for business. I avoided their last strip mall location.

For fried seafood I've been going to Lil Joes. Wife loves their boiled crawfish, but I usually just get something else.

200 killed it last night. Their peel and eat shrimp were outstanding. I love Old Bay and they were so spiced you didn't need to dip them. The oysters were the best I've had all year. So damn salty all you needed was a touch of hot sauce.

Not a fan of Ricky's personally. I've been to all of these places a good bit. The Ol lady is from the bay. I dated someone from the pass for 3 yrs prior.... North beach has been somewhat of a disappointment the last few times we went, but that's been a good while ago now.

Have to be in the mood for tripanis and dealing with the overcrowded rooms. That being said, I enjoy the trout most of the time. It'll either be sycamore or Hooks. The MIL and the wife will ultimately pick. Unless I hear some more good things about old Cuevas.

Women love the Syc house. Try OCB once at least.

With all the money Traps spent on that new place it sure doesn't seem designed well for food service. That said, their trout dishes are the best on the coast...when they have specs.

Yea, I took the wife the there the Friday before V day. It was a cluster in there but my food was really good. Nothing on the menu stood out, so I guess I was lucky the special caught my eye. Wife got the pork chop...which I ate the next day...it was real good, just not something that stands out to me when reading a menu.

Took the MIL and wife there several time prior to it burning down and the MIL has been hammering me to go. Maybe we will give it a try and see.... I usually get the special damn near everywhere I go anyways. Prolly just head downtown... Grab some drinks at the north beach bar and see what happens

Old Bay

Ugh......any place that uses Old Bay and not a good cajun/creole seasoning is not going to be on my radar. IMO it's nasty as hell

Not sure.... But will do, I'll do some digging with my local sources and see what they say. My buddy told me they had triple tail on the menu right now. May do that if I like what it looks like.

Forgot my phone.... But here is a review post 2 bottles of decoy. I'll try to be as in depth as possible.
After we sat we ordered a bottle of wine. Took a bit to get it to us. I chalk it up to the 2 tables that were sat in the same section a couple minutes after us as they ordered things on the spot.
Ordered the fried green tomatoes with lump crab and they were good... Nothing I've not had before, but that's what the ladies wanted. It is lump crab though, not sheepshead! There are no "specials" so to speak, just a fresh fish.
The fish was triple tail and trout.... For about 10min, then we were informed post ordering the triple tail that it was not on the menu. Per the waitress she was fused at and didn't know it wasn't on the menu tonight. It was trout.
I made sure that the trout was fresh and she said it came in today. After being a tad annoyed about the triple tail I wanted to make sure we were getting good fish. I have damn near 20lbs of trout I my freezer. I don't want shitty trout. Trout was cooked really well and I got it with the beure blanc with risotto and lump crab. Fish was cooked pretty good, the risotto was a tad over cooked. MIL and wife enjoyed and I'd go back again. It's not fine dining, sans the lack of a waiter for the first 15min it was a good experience. I'd go back. I preferred the lightness of the sauce as compared to Tonys sauces... Wine is pretty well priced as well! At least it compared to
The same bottles in Baton Rouge.

Was the trout paneed?

I was shocked they offered triple tail as a normal menu item, because there's either tt or not.

Glad to hear it's worthy. I'll go soon. Thanks for the review.

What years were you at LSU? Just asking for relative age...

Holy shite that review was barely readable.

2 beers, a sazerac and well over 1 bottle of wine will do it to you I guess.

Anyways food was good, MIL was still complimenting it this morning. I told the waitress last night I was more excited about the fish being cooked properly than I was the plating.
With regards to the triple tail, it has been the fish of the day for the last couple of days not a normal item. I wondered about that myself. They put what they can get fresh on it.

However, you basically pick out everything yourself for the special. Grilled, fried or sautéed. It was more like paneed than sautéed. Which Is what I got.
You pick your sauce "tripanis" style and get a side and a side salad. Overall, it was good.

Was in college in the mid-late 90s.... Then again bout 8yrs ago.
