By that time, the places with the best poboys have lines about 100 deep.

Not really about the poboys IMO.

New Orleans loves an excuse to create a large crowd, form lines, and have people walk back and forth like they have somewhere to go.

I'd pick up some olive loaf, Leidenheimer's, jar of Blue Plate, and a bag of Zapps before I went to this poboy fest. Eat while watching the Saints carve up Kansas City's D.

Seems like all these festivals have just become cluster fricks.

WAY too late. You're insane to get there at 2.

Will be packed with long lines and small expensive portions. But at least the weather is nice.

Someone else posted this which is true...

That said you should go and have fun, the weather is awesome today, the fest has awesome music, and the people watching should be really good. Yes the food is the theme, but you will probably eat just as well at the booths with no line as with ones with an hour line.

So again go, but don't be a foodie, stay away from the lines, and just have a good time.

This one has gotten better over the last few years. It took them a while to adjust to the unreal popularity, but now they have things spread out pretty good. The main vendors will of course have long lines later today, but any normal person could find a way to enjoy this event.

I agree, if you can't enjoy this fest, which is also kid and pet friendly, on a beautiful day like this in New Orleans then I feel a little sorry for you.

I go from 10-12 every year. I'm able to get all the poboys I want with minimal lines and I leave once the crowd starts to get unbearable.

We got there around 1030 and the lines were okay. By 1130 there lines were hit and miss, some booths were 30 deep and others had no line.

Had the pork sandwich from Silence of the Hams (overpowered by too much mustard), shrimp and pimento cheese from Redfish Grill (good shrimp, too much pimento cheese), and the blackened Redfish from Seithers (overcooked from mass cooking for crowds). I was overall disappointed.

If you make the effort to go to a festival and buy overpriced food, why would you buy the shitty food just to avoid standing in line?
