In New York City for the holiday with a group. We have eaten well so far across a wide variety of cuisines but the group isn't into steak. Everyone else is going home Sat. I don't fly until Sunday and will be dining solo Sat night. I love a good Prime Ribeye and plan to treat myself. Leaning towards Gallaghers or Frankie and Johnnies unless someone has a good recommendation.
I am in the Theater District / Times Square but will taxi if needed.
Any advice?

Are you looking for a modern steakhouse or an old classic?
I really like old homestead in the meat packing district.

Two places where I particularly enjoy the bone-in ribeye:
Smith & Wollensky's
797 3rd Ave
Not on the menu but they always have a Colorado ribeye upon request. Do not listen to the waiter if he suggests having it Cajun style, this is a serious piece of prime steer that only needs a touch of salt to achieve greatness.
Wolfgangs
4 Park Ave (at 33rd St)
Maybe a touch better than S&W's and a shade more consistent.

I have been to the bar here for the Canadian Bacon app. One of my standard stops. Haven't tried the dining room though.

I wouldn't go to a chain place, you're in freaking nyc
Capital grille and smith and wolls are everywhere. Go somewhere unique to nyc like Peter Lugers or something. Personally when I'm in NY I'm all about Italian, pizza, and the great Asian cuisine. There are good steakhouses everywhere

We were just there last weekend. Walked by Gallaghers Steak house, and it looked amazing. Had a window where you could see their aged steaks.
We went to Quality Meats last Saturday and it was really awesome!
Would highly recommend Tavola for italian, and Lillie's Victorian Restaurant and Bar for drinks (in theater district) if it is to crowded, right across the street is a little bar down in a basement that was really good, forget the name.

Just got back from NYC. Went to Peter Luger in Brooklyn. Ppl that live there tell me it's the best steak in the city. Didn't disappoint. The waiter was hilarious also. Had to call Amex plat to get a reservation bc I waited til a week before. Hard to come by. The steak was phenomenal though

Peter Luger's (Wolfgang's is an off shoot of) and/or Sparks. Smith and Wollensky is ehhh and Capitol Grille is a chain. The Palm isn't what it once was. Keen's is great if you want a mutton chop, the bar is the best of all the steak houses. Want to travel to Brooklyn, do Luger's. I'd say Sparks.
Also, a little history. Outside of Spark's is where Gotti put the hit on "Big Paul" Castellano, thus becoming Boss shortly after.

Capital grille and smith and wolls are everywhere.
Smith & Wollensky's are everywhere - but the restaurant group does not own the original location which I have recommended - which (particularly for the rib-eye recommended) is superior to any of the ahem, brand extensions.
The Capital Grille on E 42nd is simply dreck.

Sparks or Peter Luger.
I prefer Sparks but both are excellent.

Was going to tell you good luck getting a res at a steakhouse for a group 1 night before but I see it is just you.
I'd go to Keen's if it was just me. It has the best bar atmosphere of any of the normally recommended steakhouses. Quality meats has a pretty good bar also. In Brooklyn, I really like St. Anselms for 1 person.
Peter Lugers for 1 person on a Saturday? That's a terrible recommendation
