I was eating solid food the day after having all four of mine pulled. Stop being so dramatic.
Artie Rome, DDS?

All four of mine were impacted and needed to be cut out, plus I'm not nearly as manly as some of the people on this thread, so I was on a smoothie diet for two or three days. I really didn't want "real" food and the cold was nice.
Two of mine were just pulled and the other two had to be cut out. Not all on the same day.
One pleasant thing, though. One night after having one of them cut out, I went on a sort of hot date. While making out one of the stitches broke. She was really, really impressed with me.

Here's the soup thread, Rat.
Soup Thread
I'm sure there are some good ones in the recipe book and there may be some in the recipe thread. I know I've posted a good many on the board. See my first post in the thread. If there are any I mentioned that you're interested in, I'll find them for you or post in the thread if I haven't posted them before.
There are already some good suggestions in the thread not necessarily recipes, but things you could eat like scrambled eggs, egg drop soup and the like.
I had a similar situation with a tooth that was cracked and killing me. They wanted me on antibiotics first and I thought I was going to die from the pain. Nothing helped me sleep. I got some of that numbing stuff and got a few minutes of relief here and there, but I was a zombie when I went in to see them after I'd been on the antibiotics for about 5 days or so. I couldn't stand for my teeth to even touch. I could hardly eat at all. I feel for you. Toothaches are nothing to sneeze over. They can be awful.

Thanks for all the serious suggestions. Yes Artie, I know what soft food is, but I was looking for ideas from the foodies here to treat her to something out of the ordinary. Good ideas folks. I really like the gazpacho idea and also the smoked tomato and shrimp bisque. Nicely played.

If you have a DDS pull you wisdom teeth, then you might have to be on solid food for a week.
Oral surgeons go to med-school.

I'll be checking back in to see what you made...and whether she eats it. If I'm laid up on pain meds I'm not looking for smoked tomato and shrimp bisque. You people are delusional.

I'm a wimp because I suggested that you don't need to be eating pudding 5 days after you get some teeth pulled?

I'd skip the shrimp. Pain medicine already makes a lot of people nauseated.
Roasted tomato soup could work though. It's very easy, hearty, and doesn't contain seafood.

That's why I typically stuck with vodka and soda when on a pain med regimen.

Cracked tooth - check
antibiotics - check
no sleep - check
Orajel - check
can't let teeth touch - check
can't swallow - check
5 days - check
ETA: throw in some nausea, too
I can't see why someone would take Vicodin for fun

I'm so sorry. I know how that feels. I have a high tolerance for pain and I was the most miserable that I can remember. I can't take codeine, so I was taking 800 mg of ibuprofen and some other pain med that made me gaga, but didn't do much for the pain. The ibuprofen occasionally took a bit of the edge off, but not nearly enough and it didn't last long. Since I couldn't eat much, the meds didn't do much for stomach. Eating even soup was difficult. I feel for you and hope you get some relief today when you go to the oral surgeon. Good luck and eat pureed soup best you can.

Make sure she's not having any stomach issues from meds etc... because sometimes tomatoes can compound those. Not something you want to have when you're recuperating. Too much acid can cause issues if you're on certain meds.

I had a crown put in this morning. For some reason, they had trouble deadening my mouth sufficiently. Took 3 tries before I couldn't feel the drill/grinder, whatever. The left side is sore as a mofo. Unfortunately, I'm fresh out of narcotics. Eating gumbo, drinking vodka and taking extra strength aspirin. Got to be ready for my 2:30.

Stouffer's spinach souffle is nice and soft. Of course, you could make your own.
