I'm leaving in the morning for The Gonzales jambalaya festival and will stop in New Orleans for lunch and again, on the way back,Monday. Where should I eat? I've never had a City Grocery Muffuletta and I'm thinking I'll try it but I'm open to suggestions. What are the absolute MUST places for lunch?

Butcher if you want a sandwich.

I second Gaston's Butcher.
I'm not a huge fan of muffalettas and the ones I like are hot. Technically, the sandwich isn't served hot and Central won't do them hot that I'm aware of so I steer clear despite their rightful place in NOLA sandwich lore.
That said, depending on what you're looking for, the burgers at both at La Petit Grocery and Toup's are damn good.
Po-boys at Verti Marte(in the quarter and limited seating), Bevi, Parkway, and Zimmer's(Gentilly, limited seating, and may have a wait) should be considered as well.
Let us know more of what you're looking for and I'm sure you'll get some more specific answers...
