It is good, but it's no Mecca.

Best food city? Not sure what that means.
Best food city where the majority of people place a high value on food? Perhaps so.
Best food city as in having one of the longest running traditions of great food in America? I can go with that as well.
Best food city as in most unique, or a city that's given more to American cuisine than any other? I can go with that too.
All good arguments, but if it's best food city, as in most well rounded, or diverse, or that city where you can find a plethora of all kinds of different and unique food options, then no. It's not that kind of city, and I don't think they necessarily have to be. New Orleans does what New Orleans does well, and that's why people flock to it, to get a sampling of that which you can't really find much of anywhere else. It does New Orleans Creole food, and other traditional local foods like nobody's business, and everything lives, eats, and breathes around good food. That's very special.
New Orleans is very highly respected in food, and well it should be, but I would say that SF, and NYC have to be the two that compete for the best food cities as in all around.

Stick to eating at the local Dairy Queen.

True enough, but don't short change the restaurants in N.O. that serve more innovative and modern cuisine. Lilette, Root, etc.

I would say that NYC, SF, Chicago and New Orleans would be the top four.

Not no but he'll no. I adore Lilette, as I do Stella, and Bayona, as well as others. It's just a numbers thing, and the market is there for sure, but it's just not the size of the markets found in those other cities, and that's just being honest. Like I said, I don't think it's necessary to be that. I just think when people say BEST food city, or BEST restaurant, etc, it needs to be defined exactly what that means because it means different things to different people.

It's a magazine! They wouldn't need to make lists if everyone knew it was either NYC or San Fran.
This is a nice nod to NOLA, we just had a fantastic Superbowl. I would imagine many of their editors were, in town and we were fresh in their mind.
