Yeh... Makes me wonder how they get their "triple tail" b/c they do tend to have it a good bit.

I will say I went to old cuevas as the other day and that place seems to be a shell of its former self. That wine list.... I've seen better wine list at a beer bar. shite it was horrible. Tried to sale me an $11 bottle of wine for $40 as a substitution for what they were out of.

Food wasn't terrible, but not what I remember eating on a regular basis back when they were on menge

Didn't Hooks hire their chef away? I thought that was the case, a friend's son waited at OCB until it burned, but I'm not sure if he just helped them with the menu or if he's still with them.

I'm not sure what OCB is doing, they have such a great spot but it's anything but inviting. The dark windows and really nothing up front is a strange concept. Right on Main St but no real presence.

Everyone thought they may approach the Syc House with quality, but they're much closer to to 200 and Traps...but without any real draw.

Definitely agree with that summation... They have the bakery case im the front and it's just kind of weird.

I was told that they had to change the menu b/c things weren't selling, for instance they have no wedge. They make their own blue cheese dressing, but don't have a wedge salad anymore. Supposedly no one was getting it.

And yeh... If I remember correctly they did get the chef to move to hooks.

We ate at the place next to Shaggys, Pelican Wharf. It was spectacular.
Its a good menu but the owner, Rick, did a disservice not bringing over more of the menu when he changed the concept from Beach Bums. His 'The Reef' is excellent though.

As for the OP, Half Shell is pretty good. But, if you're looking for just oysters, raw or charbroiled, go across the street to Adventures Bar and Grill. Their oysters are cheaper, just as good, and their menu is really good for pub fare.

Ended up at Half Shell. I had the smoked tuna dip and wife had the fried green tomatoes for apps. I had the grouper topped with a crab cake with fried new potatoes and cheese grits, she had the seafood stuffed portabelos with jalapeño hush puppies and sweet potatoes.

Thumbs up from me.
