Wife and I are going to Austin this weekend and looking for some recommendations for a nice dinner Friday night, get all fancied up (not coat and tie), wife can wear a nice dress and have some good food and wine... we are staying at the JW Marriott downtown so would like something near there...

These are all walkable from JW.

Lambert's (Upscale BBQ)
Swift's Attic
Russian House
Parkside (has an awesome happy hour for food and drink)
Chez Nous (French)
Peche

A few recommendations for Eddie V's, they have live jazz and right by my hotel, sounds like a winner to me!

As Zappa said, it's a chain. If you want something more unique, try some of the other places (3 forks is also a chain).

Lambert's usually has live music upstairs.

Fixe or Olamaie are two of the very best in addition to what's been said.
Skip eddie v's. It's good but go somewhere else while youre here.

I'm arriving Sunday afternoon for channelcon, also staying at the JW Marriot through Thursday. Report back on where you end up going.

There's going to be a ton of IT nerds up there.

When we went last year, we did Lamberts which was very good and uchi which was kinda disappointing for the amount of food I spent $200 on.

So I recommend Lamberts and not uchi

My most recent spot was Olive & June. Great dinner and wine list.

Austin has nice restaurants obviously but the culture is far more focused on casual dining than a lot of other cities. The best food in ATX is at a food truck, mexican place, or franklin's/la bbq.

that said if you're dead set on a nicer place i'd go with a steak at either Eddie V's or Vince Young's
